The reason I still refer to ‘The Stereophonics’ as ‘The Stere-Ophonics’ , ‘Daniel Be-ding-field’ etc etc

Used to get home from school, play some GTA on the PC with M&L on the radio. Good times. Simpler times!

He plays or at least played in a folk band (The Family Mahone). He lived near to us in Cheshire and when Christopher Neil opened their new TVR/Lotus showroom in Northwich the band played at the opening. This was in their Radio 1 heyday too. We went down to watch and Peter Wheeler was there too.
Didn't Lard used to play bass with The Fall?

Viz radio.
Is that a M&L reference or an actual channel?

Mark and Lard were peak radio for me. Used to regularly have me crying with laughter and I've no idea how they got away with some of the stuff they did.

I'm sure there was one feature where Bernard Wrigley would give his opinion on something, which was always 'I thought that was a load of f-beep-king ste'.

Years ago there used to be a M&L forum with all their old sketches, downloaded them all and burnt them two a couple of DVDs worth. Unfortunately the DVDs I had have suffered from disc rot and are unreadable, the forum is offline and I can't find anyone else who has the entire collection. Gutted.

My fave Mark and Lard era was early 90s on Radio 1 from 10pm until midnight. I used to lie in bed and listen until 11pm and then record the second hour on a cassette and listen the next day. Loved it. cloud9

First memory of Mark R is "Out on Blue Six" which was a one hour show each week. At 9pm I think.

I actually have quite a few full shows in MP3 format on my PC from this era (and the later afternoon shows). Still listen on occasion, and never fails to put a smile on my face.

Even have a John Peel Festive Top 50 show recording from 1980!

That was my era. I "discovered" late night radio when I moved away to university and Mark and Lard were my company during many a late night revision session.
As well as bouts of silly humour, it also introduced me to poetry and stuff. And Fish or Fowl (is it guppy, is it an owl?)

Apologies, what i meant was they were a bit like what a Viz radio show would sound like.

I first heard Simon Armitage (Poet Laureate) on Mark and Lard. Also Ian McMillan. I think that Mark Kermode got his very first break as a film reviewer on their show. Actually, I call it their show but I think that strictly speaking it was Mark Radcliffe's show.

I remember a brilliant piece of an afternoon when they were talking about, I think, a US lady solider whose second name was Schaat, and it was all ' I'm not sure how to promounce this, I think it's Schaat myself? Do you think it's Schaat yourself?' and on they went. Hilarious at the time, and quite risky in their time spot.... but perhaps you had to be there

And Jules, poet and wife of the singer from New Model Army. She once read out a Limerick I sent in - my one moment in the national spotlight.

I remember the Tony McCarroll school of drumming.
