I was away on holiday when these two were removed from air at short notice. I got back and tuned in on the Monday afternoon and they weren't there. Wtf? One minute they were there, the next minute they'd gone. It was like a death in the family. I never got to hear the final show it was so sudden.

No radio show has come close since. I still use some of their catchphrases every day.

Another one that feels lucky to have grown up with them, and many of their catch phrases are still in use now.

It was a different world back then vs instant streaming access for entertainment now……I remember writing to Yamaha to get a demo CD for the Yamaha DJX in the lead up to Christmas. Felt very futuristic having Mark and Lard available at the press of a button rather than waiting for the radio show to come back around.

And Santa did bring a DJX that year, didn’t make me a funny as them though.

Mark & Lard were brilliant and the reason I despise Chris Evans, he used to belittle them at every opportunity and was probably partly responsible for their downfall. Considering Northerners should stick together at the BBC he was a disgrace.

As for Lard playing bass in The Fall - hasn't everybody? (I think that might be one of his jokes!?!)

I always hoped they'd at least do a reunion show at some point, until I saw this Tweet a few years ago...

I remember enjoying "Bird or bloke", at least in part for the theme song.

I actually have quite a few full shows in MP3 format on my PC from this era (and the later afternoon shows). Still listen on occasion, and never fails to put a smile on my face.

Even have a John Peel Festive Top 50 show recording from 1980!
I’ve got the last 3 episodes in MP3 on my PC, how do we get them together?

They were great. I cannot hear Christina Aguilera without thinking her big hit was "Guinness in a Bottle". Or that the singer of "You're Simply the Best" was Tin O'tuna.

I never post on here but felt the need to share this Mark & Lard bounty I've had for years with anyone who wants it. There's 1.3Gbs worth of MP3 clips collated by some MnL fans way from back when in a ZIP file.

Here's a link to a txt file showing the contents in case you're worried;

And here's a link to the actual zip file;

A few bits that really still stand out 20+ years on:

The Bolton Bullfrog on one man and his frog.

Playing 'You took the words right out of my mouth' on bad vinyl (can't recall the feature), skipping to 'cock' at the wrong/right moment over and over again.

Mustn't grumble!

You hero! I'm sure I've got some MP3s of the 'Radio 1 Antiques Roadshow' ('is it werrf owt?!') buried away on an old hard drive. Unfortunately I'm between houses so it'll be buried deep in the storage unit... I'll have to go for a rummage....

I'd like a biggedy biggedy bong in a Jim McDonald stylee.

Biggedy biggedy bong so it is

And also a rarer, biggedy biggedy bong in a Fred Elliott stylee.

Biggedy, I say biggedy, I say bong

I never post on here much either but I'd just like to say a big thanks for the link to that dropbox folder up there.

Missing Words just made me cramp up with laughter again. Just like the first time.

Happy Daze.
