I passed a similar view and was told I was categorically wrong, that every one of my senses of perception had somehow failed....but I saw what I saw.
The same film, rewritten with every terrible cliche that makes you physically groan and despair at the lack of creativity.
And doesn't every bar owner have a yacht and a 911...
It's also Star Wars...
Luckily, my partner also watched it and independently concluded the same and she's a big fan of the original.

Emperor's new clothes. I said after I saw it on opening day that I was underwhelmed and that feeling hasn't changed having watched it again. It is a low-brow crowd-pleasing update of the original and waaaay too similar IMO.

That thing was proper sinister!
I genuinely thought the opening SR-72/Mach 10 thing was going to a dream sequence. The mention of scramjet engines added a touch of reality but ejecting at Mach 10+ isn't going to leave you walking into a random hick diner!
The mix of F18s & F35s on the first carrier scene seemed a bit of a setup to throw a bit of maguffin into the plot (and the aforementioned GPS anomaly).
The bird strike resulting in Phoenix going down was unnecessary in the grand scheme of things.
The outcome of the raid on the death star was a bit more James Bond than TG. Maverick has now ejected more times in a month than most pilots will ever do in a lifetime (plus he also ejected in the first one!).
Hangman coming in at the end to save the day just ticked the final cliche box.
Rooster being surprised the wings move on an F14 was ridiculous, any Top Gun pilot is going to know their aircraft history.
On saying all of that I did really enjoy it!
To be fair Rooster being surprised the wings were going out was because they were still on a taxiway and usually they would leave the wings in until they get to the runway. He didn’t realise Maverick was going to take off from there hence the ‘why are the wings moving/going out?’ QuestionI genuinely thought the opening SR-72/Mach 10 thing was going to a dream sequence. I’m guessing the SR-72 maybe had an ejectable cockpit capsule similar to the F-111. It’s a poor plot hole but that theory fits for me so going with it
Very enjoyable movie.

Enjoyed the film, but in the final dogfight, why does Rooster say 'use some of that pilot s**t?' - he's a pilot. I know Goose said it in the first film (not a pilot), but it's a strange thing for a pilot to say.
Know what you mean but I think it was just simply being able to squeeze that reference in and was a better link by Rooster saying it than anyone else.Muzzer79 said:
I watched it on Friday night and thought it was bloody brilliant.
More plot holes than Swiss cheese, but I don’t care…..it was bloody brilliant.
Yep. Some films you have to allow a little latitude with the plot. You could pick holes in it forever, but ignore them and its a fking brilliant film. More plot holes than Swiss cheese, but I don’t care…..it was bloody brilliant.
Just watched it.
Story - hmm. And a bit more hmm. Really nothing all that special at all.
Flying sequences - I've never seen anything like it. I certainly regret not catching it on Imax, not that there's one within a million miles of me.
That part is truly cinematic in a way you don't come across very often.

Another thumbs up from me, leave your brain at the door and enjoy it for what it is. An 80s film lifted and shifted into 2020s production value.
Years ago I invested heavily into home cinema setup and since we had a baby a couple of years ago it's been criminally under used. After I pulled the Lego out of the subwoofer it sounded fantastic, and Amazon/Netflix are usually underwhelming on audio so looking forward to grabbing it on Blu-ray.

Tom Cruise wasn't really convincing me he was a top fighter pilot during those cockpit scenes when he was doing the practise trench run. Do pilots usually grunt and pull faces like that?
This isn't meant as a pop at you so apologies if it comes across like that, it just tickled me...........................If you don't know what fighter pilots do, how can you say he's not convincing as one?
Saw it when it first came out on an absolute huge screen in Dubai and loved every second of it. Atmosphere in the cinema was amazing also with people cheering and laughing and clapping.
Watched it again at home on Friday night and it was probably even better on second watch than first.
Loved the bit where he walked into the bar and asks where he is and the kid says Earth. 🤣

There is lots I liked about it, but I thought the humour was really well written and delivered. That line above and also when he's sneaking out of Penny's house and jumps to the ground, stands up and her daughter is at the window.

I watched it again this afternoon and I properly enjoyed it again. I went to see it first with my eldest daughter at the cinema and I loved it. So it was nice to watch it with my missus again as well...although she did say that it was incredibly cheesey though!
I still think that it is an epic film regardless of how easy it is to pick holes in it.
