There needs to be a weekly public service announcement that reminds everyone that the amount of profit/loss in the rebuild of individual cars is largely academic due to the many other sources of income

But it won't be sold it will be raffled off, I'm sure the reason for this is no comeback if it goes wrong and you could have won the car for only £10, everyone's a winner, except all the people who didn't win of course.

Im struggling to see how Mat Armstrong will make any profit or break even on this RR.

Someone earlier posted that Mat paid £184,000 for the crash damaged car. Then from the video it looks like he was going to buy a donor car for £94,000

I definitely would not want to buy a badly bodged, cut and shut. I wouldn’t even drive a cut and shut car I was given for free. So I can’t see those with £372,000 to spend on a Rolls Royce wanting such a bad example.

I really don’t care it was previously owned by Marcus Rashford. Him and the Mansory brand label are meaningless to me.

In the last week his newly posted videos have done 5.6m views. I suspect the purchase price doesn’t really matter anymore.

Not often I stick up for Mat but the will be far from bodged or as you put it a cut and shut, with a donor car he will have all the parts to repair, the quarter and inner panel will be replaced as per the factory.

As for a profit, it will be raffled when finished plus as others have said, he is pulling massive views.

I have not always been his biggest fan but hats off to him for finding a formula that works and brings in the numbers, might not last for ever so enjoy your time in the sun whilst it does.

I've said before that I love what Mat does, but I hate what he creates. So I watch, but the rise of The Goon Squad with their inane cackling and screeching is wearing thin.

I know, at 50-something, I'm not his core audience, but I'm finding it harder and harder to stay with him. Ironically, it's his dad, who's closest to my age, that I find the most annoying.

Who said anything about a cut and shut?

Do you know what a cut and shut is? confused

The car will be raffled off, not sold.

My guess is he'll punt it over to the Middle East where it will have some meaning and it won't actually be driven - just shown off as the latest acquisition.

Even with those viewing figures he's going to have to stretch it out over many many videos to make a dent in the costs for this one.

Also, is he really going to raffle this one off when it's finished? It'll owe him many multiples of the value of any other car he's raffled before, and whoever wins it almost certainly won't be able to afford to run it so it will be for sale immediately after.

It looks like 5.6m views is around $30,000 ( https://www.thinkific.com/blog/youtube-money-per-v...). He still has some way to go if he is going to make a profit.

Good luck to him, though.

I suspect his audience is in a key demographic and that leads to a higher than average rate per view, possible as much as double your $30k estimate.

He makes his money on the raffles not the views. Someone calculated about £500k ticket sales for the Cayman. That's a big chunk of profit that he can sink into ridiculousness like this Monstory. He's also got some older videos about house flipping and building a rental property business.

It's entertainment. I think it's impressive what he does, but I would never drive anything he's built and I bet they all drive a bit crooked and have a multitude of gremlins! But they serve their purpose and it's not like he's ruining anything that want ruined to begin with.

Fair play, he's loving his best life, enjoying cars and making bank. I can't be mad at that. I give his vids a spin when I've run out of gears and gasoline, stay tuned or legit streetcars.

It will be interesting to see just how much of it is BMW parts bin, and what the mark up is from RR.
I’m sure they’ll love him keep reminding everyone of that

RealOEM has an excellent cross-reference capability.

It's actually surprising that BMW don't use different part numbers for their RR stuff, but with a cross-reference that only they can see.

Indeed, and let’s not forget that’s only in 24 hours.

Also.. the video was sponsored by Car Vertical which will also bring in another 5 figure number.

He’ll have paid for the purchase price in after 3/4 weeks of videos maximum.

Repairs.. I guess we’ll see.

It’s also the ongoing build of his channels. The Rashford name is going to bring in new subscribers that might not have found him otherwise and many of those will like what they see and come back for more. This means it’s not just the views on these videos but continuing to build on the future too.

I’m with you on that; I’m sure they are nice people but like you say it’s aimed a different demographic so I tend to skip through most of it (plus I find his dad’s laugh seriously annoying..!). I always think it’s a mistake when youtubers decide to bring in family because it’s generally not their other half etc that people originally subscribed to watch, so the chances that they will enjoy it are fairly slim. I used to subscribe to a motorcycle YTer, but then his wife started featuring regularly in the videos, which wasn’t for me.

The purchase has also now got a story on the Daily Mail sport section, with a link to the video, which will drive more views and subscribers.

Credit to Armstrong = £185k is a big risk, but it could be big reward.

The story has appeared in the Daily Mail!

(So I'm told by a friend)

£185k is alot of money, but considering the views (2.3m in 1 day) and exposure for his channel (even more views), plus any re-sale at the end of the project I don't think it's that much of a risk.

Matt comes across as an amatuer but I think he's very clever.
