I really like(d) his videos.

The newer stuff that involves road trips around Europe, destroying the RS6 engine in a drag race and doing doughnuts in a rented g wagon is less my thing TBH.
He is at his best when he is repairing cars that look beyond hope.

He has also started going down the road of something I can’t stand. Not finishing projects before starting another.

Ferrari 430 and McLaren 720 need finishing before another gets started.

I hope he gets back to his core skill set soon.

I find his videos too hectic for my tastes, it's all 100 mph pacing. But he's boot strapped himself from a standing start to full on success far as I can tell, so good luck to the guy. He strikes me as a likeable character who's made a go of things.

Worth remembering that the Mclaren and Ferrari had to take a back seat as the RS6 was on a deadline for shipping to the States so it could be displayed at Sema.

Really enjoyed the videos, particularly the repaired GT3 in the US and the Nurburgring trip.

He's getting shut of his Cayman by raffle but at £9.95 a ticket, he's going to have to sell a lot of tickets.

Looks like a crap way to blow £9.95 to me.

If the rumours are correct he sold 60000 tickets for the M5, he will easily sell enough tickets to cover it.

I wonder where these numbers come from? He's got about 2M Youtube subscribers which he said half of were in USA hence his USA content so even if he's got 600K in the UK (to be eligible), 1 in 10 would have to buy a ticket. I would have thought it would be closer to 1 in 100 as most realise that the chances of winning anything even if there's only 6000 tickets sold are so close to zero, you may as well not bother.

But - my numbers are probably wildly out and he's done several of these before so I suspect it's working for him.

Don't forget some people buy multiple, people really do blow decent chunks of money on these.

Me, I threw a tenner at it as what the hell, I'm no gambler, don't really do these kind of things and not done the lottery in ages. Just a tenner and the draw in 24hrs drew me in, draw at 9pm tonight and some cash runner up prizes you never know...

Be interesting to see how many people watch the draw live, could give a rough idea of tickets sold.

IIRC the live draw disclosed the cell number of the excel sheet with the tickets in, approx ~60k entries.

There's some statistic that if you buy a lottery ticket 5 days in advance you've (statistically) got more chance of dying that winning. Doesn't stop people though.

I suspect he doesn't need the money, sponsorship and views will have already covered the Porsche costs. IAn auction is a good way to keep people involved and to be seen to be helping his audiance rather than just selling for £50k.

Matt comes across as a cheeky chap chancer who makes it up as he goes along, but I think he is very smart at what he does, fair play to him. clap

Might the raffles make things easier too when it comes to getting rid of the cars?

No trader issues and no come-back etc?

I could imagine in his position that actually selling these would be more complicated and come with a few problems. A raffle essentially allows him to wash his hands of it and completely see the back of it whilst still earning the brass.

He posted a video yesterday.

Most winners keep the cars for a few months then sell them on.

There can’t be that many issues with the cars.

I’d quite happily drive that Cayman. I think he has even put it around the “ring” a few times.

Exactly this.

It’s a very clever (and legitimate) strategy from him.

Buy a car that was a write off but will never have the value of a straight one.

Fix it, drawing income from YouTube content.

Remove the issue of selling it by raffling it. He’ll need to sell, what, 3-4000 tickets? Shouldn’t be a problem.

Car goes on new owner, who has a Porsche for a tenner. When they come to sell it at reduced value, they don’t care because they’re quids in anyway because it only owes them a tenner.

Win-win.

Interesting that most people seem to sell these cars quite quickly after winning them. I wonder what the value of that Cayman is when whoever wins it decides to sell it on. Stock and undamaged it would be perhaps a £35k car, the mods probably add a bit of value to the right buyer, but it remains a Cat N, with a very well-known history of repair by a self-confessed enthusiastic amateur. Does the 'celebrity' of it add any value? Doubtful!

I suspect Mat will make more than it's worth by letting it go this way - there are plenty of people watching his videos who will buy multiple tickets, and the timing is great, people are in spending mode just before Christmas, and it's easy to say 'what's another £10?'.

A aweful lot less than MA will get from his raffel.
His M5 netted him about 600k before expenses didn't it.
