Enjoyed that, pretty easy decision making too.

The van driver bloke is pretty annoying, hope he settles down a bit!

Hope the fish is dish that was 1st to go through is his own idea and his natural ability and looking forward for his next dishes. What with blue and green rice esp blue rice, black squid ink rice I know of and only 2 clucking meat and no rack of raw lamb.

Why do we need to be told what they do for a living every 5 minutes - who cares ?

Terri's tortellini dish looked and sounded delicious.

It was unsurprising that the cook that tried to do a hollandaise in a microwave was booted out.

They call this first round the 'audition round' but how do contestants get to be chosen to appear on TV? I can't find the selection process explained on the Masterchef website: https://www.masterchef.com

Pretty straightforward for the choices on this first episode.
I did laugh when I heard the first round was 'family favourites', and of course their first dish out was a posh crab tortelloni veloute. Glad that John called them out on this!
(What, you mean you DONT feed your family veloute for daily meals?!biggrin)

FYI, in case people aren't aware, Greg will be taking some time out after this series. He and John were on the One Show last week and Greg mentioned he has a 'very autistic' son, and theyre trying to find him a good school etc.
They did go on to say that they've done around 50 series of Masterchef! Amazing really.

I expect they must have some sort of regional 'pre audition' rounds.

An OK start... sad to see my local councilor (she's actually pretty good) head home... All the ever presents, raw chicken, poorly cooked rice, a streetfood guy the dresses like a 12 year old, premature emotional tears...
But - Why isn't the Audition round blind? I don't see the point of John and Greg meeting the cooks in a seperate room - All to make a new star out of stage manager, can't recall his name...? Why doesn't he take through the dishes and the best three are picked?

I thought her invention test dish was a very poor choice, it was like she had already decided she was going home so put next to no effort into the dish.

I’d give that pasta dish a wide berth!

And the Taco also but the beef dish I would have once a week and like a bit jerk chicken.

Was that a shady version of Darude Sandstorm as the filler music before they started the next challenge

Should have been straight out of the door for that, there was no attempt to meet the brief at all. I thought Woei was unlucky to go out there, he at least hit the brief, even if the dish didn't quite work for John.

Just get the impression that he's auditioning for a reality tv show rather than a cooking show. Counting the days till he gets eliminated.....

Could would order Terri food at a restaurant no problem. Thought Matthew food could strife on dishes not practise to the nth degree. Hoped to be proven wrong though.

Mathew dropped the ball in that round. Real shame as I would like to have seen more of his cooking.
Good first week.
