Couple of questions, why do the contestants take big risks for their first menus e.g. never used a water bath before so why now ? Normally cook beef for 5 hours at home so why try doing it differently (I know time is an issue but why take the risk?)
Also, why wouldn't you have some sort of plan for the invention test ? If you've watched the programme before then you know whats going to be asked and you know the array of ingredients that is going to be offered

I've absolutely no intention of doing it but I've got my "family favourite", invention test (with and without meat), a dessert and a stuffed pasta for when I'm really stuck all planned out ...Also, why wouldn't you have some sort of plan for the invention test ? If you've watched the programme before then you know whats going to be asked and you know the array of ingredients that is going to be offered
Why would you enter and then immediately look flustered by something you must know is going to happen

this is the kind of stuff that drives me crackers, along with the "no i've never tried, heard of or seen this flavour combination before but masterchef invention test is the time and place to try it out."Also, why wouldn't you have some sort of plan for the invention test ? No comments yet on Grace Dent’s dress yet? You are all slipping.
And hair and general makeover ... she's still got that hint of naughtiness in her eyes though which is what appeals to me!This thread is useless without pictures
Best thing in that episode was Grace Dent. Tastier by far than some of the dishes. Too much curry in this series so far. But thankfully I have not seen a single scallop and very little duck - I think they must have been told to try to think of some other ingredients. But I miss John saying that the duck has have the fat properly rendered down and a nice cripsy skin, every single time. And it needs time to rest.
Very strange choice of contestants this series - some seem to be barely above competent home cook level but I guess they must tick one of the many boxes that need ticking.....
