The Police and Inquiry staff are pooling information and testimony. The Judge has been very clear any witness statement has the potential to self incriminate and the witness swear under oath that their written and oral evidence is the truth.

This is not some fireside chat enterprise, the evidence produced in the inquiry has legal value for criminal charges.

The inquiry isn’t a trial… sanctions against the PO, Fujitsu or individuals - if they ever happen - will be years away.
Yet in another part of this forum we have a thread where it is stated many times that if you don't attend a voluntary interview based on nothing more than an allegation from just one individual then you will be arrested and questioned PDQ?
Strangely I don't think the inquiry is bound by the musings of a thread on a motoring site.

Im sure they do have legal value.

But there wont be any criminal charges. Not for anyone of any consequence.

If you have faith there will be, sadly, i dont share it.

I know Royal Mail and the Post Office are different organisations, but was a bit staggered to hear the response when they've finally agreed to investigate the shambles of the number of people being 'fined' £5 to receive a letter with one of the new barcoded stamps that the system has identified as counterfeit even though they've been bought from Post Offices.

Straight in with that it implies postmasters have swapped real stamps for counterfeit.

Nothing wrong with the computer scanning system or printers apparently. Lessons learned?

Exactly my point. They may find a fall guy or girl and level some charges, no one will end up in jail for very long.
Has the scandal had an effect on the level of business contracted by government with Fujitsu?

It's beyond comprehension as to why the Police are not feeling peoples collars, where is the Home secretary on this? It appears there is no justice in this country, quite shameful.
Must be worse for the victims, this followed the report - https://www.channel4.com/news/people-deserve-to-go...
I was thinking of the victims when I posted, and of course people (many) should stand trial, it beggars belief that given we have video, written and audio evidence of this criminal conspiracy that people haven't been arrested and questioned, Arbuthnot doesn't understand it and neither do I and many other people I suspect.

We all probably know this, but just from google news "Secret recordings offer the “final proof” that former Post Office CEO Paula Vennells knew about issues with the Horizon IT system at the same time as staff were being prosecuted".

Absolutely shocking, just goes from bad to worse, I do hope she gets jail time for this, but then again, with our justice system who knows.

Loss of post office pension for starters, then jail time.

To coin a phrase, I hope that’s the first nail in Vennels coffin.

I didn't state I have faith in any just outcome, I was simply showing the value of the information being brought via the Inquiry.
There is zero reason why criminal charges have not been brought against many people yet, there is nothing in the inquiry structure to prevent this, the terms of reference state that Police can run their investigations in parallel.

The memorandum of understanding terms between the Inquiry and the Police is in this document. Information is being shared in both directions and where the Police feel that some evidence should not be published fully as it may prejudice a prosecution, they have arrangements for that.

Have the post office got a death wish? Latest scandal is PO stamps found to be wrong by them and their stamp scanning equipment. Customers being fined £5 for using a forged stamp.

Wonder if it was Fujitsu created software used in the scanning equipment?

Stamps are Royal Mail, not Post Office.

Hopefully this isn't just bluster, an interview with Liam Byrne followed but this unfortunately doesn't include it.
