How the chuff do you get 13.5m pairs of eyeballs on your product and not make money?
The article implies that the really money is selling TV product on to other markets, not the bad revenue on the domestic market. And I guess a very British centric product doesn’t sell on well?Still seems odd though.

The broadcast ad breaks would probably have been sold on the basis of the number of viewers expected rather than the number of viewers they got. I guess it’s why churning out Ant & Dec reality/talent show crap is so attractive; cheap content, expensive ads.Camoradi said:
So we are led to believe by these witnesses that not a single one of them individually did anything wrong, the combined effect of which was the biggest miscarriage of justice in UK legal history.
They should prosecute them all as a single entity on the basis of joint enterprise.
I would be happy with that outcome. It is very possible that they have all conspired to obfuscate, to the point that the enquiry goes nowhere. The problem with our judicial system is that any doubt would see them walk free. They should prosecute them all as a single entity on the basis of joint enterprise.
What a messed up World we live in, when you consider what the subpostmasters have suffered.

It does. All solicitors’ primary responsibility is to the Court. Then to their clients/employers.
I’m the GC of a large business. It is much harder to maintain that professional separation when you work in-house. I know of at least one GC who has resigned because of this conflict and many of us wrestle with this. In fact in private companies and many listed organisations the GC is also the company secretary (they have separate responsibilities/duties)
This has been a huge failure of corporate governance - the most significant in my 20 years of qualification - and something all in-house lawyers must learn from.
It is never wrong to do the right thing but the pressure in that environment - because it clearly came from the chair all the way down - must have been immense.

None of which Mr Bates vs PO meets. Let's say it cost approximately the same as a single episode of Doc Martin to make and edit etc. See the problem now?

After the statement of the ex chief lawyer of POL stating that Vennels instructed staff to continue convictions despite her knowing they were on shaky ground with Horizon there can be no doubt that Vennels should be imprisoned for a long time.
She should not be given easy number like prison chaplain either.
I have sat in board meetings where the Chair and CEO have instructed other directors that we should, and I quote "shaft our partners to maximise our return"She should not be given easy number like prison chaplain either.
I said that I found this unpalatable, and thought it was wrong morally. A week later I was looking for a new job, apparently I hadn't met my targets - wrong, and my face didn't fit - weird after 6 years and growing the business 400%!
They had to pay me off though - 1 years salary, car for a year, pension for a year! I got a new role in a week, paid off the mortgage.

Perhaps the establishment doesn't want the spotlight on jobs for the boys and girls that exposed their incompetence.
Now where is my tin foil hat.

And how is the shell garage evening shift going? (Seriously, well done/admiration on being clear about values there, more people should do this… your position is not even incompatible with making a profit - Adam Smith showed this of course, so any half competent person should realise by now (a few hundred years later) that trade/business is not zero-sum. Boost your partners to maximise return!)

It's very odd, my daughter heard about the programme from her friend who is American saying she really has to watch the series.

It's clear that the powers that be place pressure to keep inconvenient stuff below radar, and have always done so.Perhaps the establishment doesn't want the spotlight on jobs for the boys and girls that exposed their incompetence.

For example recently been discussion that before the 97 election the Guardian got hold of a story about Gordon Brown's intention to alter the rules on tax credits for pension funds. Guardian were threatened that if they ran the story the Govt would completely cut them off if they came to power. Guardian caved in even they were very critical of the policy once in place, the infamous £5 billion pensions raid which pretty much led to the demise of defined benefit pension schemes, apart from public sector and civil service obviously. Gits.

In my experience the boards I am a member of now, do push integrity and values much more when setting the culture of a business. There is a definite change from even 10 years ago.
I listen to every Inquiry Interview, and find many of the attitudes pretty appalling, and like others the attempts to dodge accountability repugnant. I wonder if the PO has changed at all now.
