I think the nostalgia aspect can’t be ignored, we made a proper Saturday night of it with our children-pizza, sweets, party food with dips…

Yes it was recreating our childhoods to a certain aspect but the kids, 4 and 7 just absolutely loved it too!

Both now have their favourite gladiators.

Interesting to see the new Jet didn’t feature at all, wonder if she was injured as she was plugged a lot in the build up.

We’re having a lazy Sunday morning before the outlaws coming over for Sunday lunch and the kids have asked to watch it again, you don’t get a better endorsement than that.

Never thought I'd be so happy to hear "Gladiator Ready!!"

Original ref John Anderson, now pushing 92 and still going strong.

Really enjoyed.

It is fairly light hearted, so the Walsh duo isn’t too bad. Perhaps another presenter with sport cred doing the interviews after the events would be good, and act as a bit of a champion for the contenders, leaving the intro and links to the other two.

Changing room cam added nothing.

Viper immediately the comedy bad guy, which has been over done from the start. I’m sure Wolf grew into that role and had a bit of balance instead of this permanent angry character.

Dunno why the ref was shouting release on gauntlet. I’m sure if they pinned you down previously, that was it and the whole point of the game.

Nice it has been kept retro (even the contender tracksuits).

Bradley Walsh is a good host but his son added nowt, I could understand it if it was his daughter as it’s a male and female sporting show so it’s common sense to have a female host as well-the best pairing of the OG British gladiators was fash and ulrika I reckon so it would make sense to copy that.

In reality it was so well done there’s little to pick about though.

Someone mentioned the Netflix doco about the original American Gladiators and if you can you should watch that-it was ace!

Anyone remember when we had the celeb version and the American v British specials?

The guy who played superman back in the 90s tv show smallville came over to ours and he was an absolute beast! Ex football player if I remember correctly?

I think sky showed the American gladiators back then and it really was a great thing for kids to watch.

Great to have competitive sport for kids on the tv.

Who remembers Wesley 2 scoops Berry won the UK and International gaiators used to run rings around the gladiators could jump clean over a car off memory and rapped a bit too.

I didn't mind the Walshes presenting it, I do agree that a sports presenter would be good too like Alex Scott. Ye Olde Gladiators was Ulrika-ka-ka and John Fashanu so it can't be that bad an idea to have a mix of presenters hehe . The presenters could have been a lot worse... Paddy McGuinness

It was good though, proper old Saturday night TV without any phone ins or voting for stuff.

Always remember him! He could properly clear the car as well.

I have just watched it and really enjoyed it. Like someone else mentioned it was nice to watch it all in one go without the show being stretched out to 90 minutes with ad breaks and unnecessary sob stories a la ITV. Was a wee bit pleased to see there is a deaf gladiator in the show. Like myself, my little girl is deaf so it's nice that she can have a positive role model to follow!

I wanted to see if Viper was related to Wolf but seems not. However, Wolf at 70 is still pretty jacked!

My Daughter and I sat and watched it this morning. As soon as the original theme tune started up I was transported back to my childhood watching it with my Mum and Dad on a Saturday night. I’m glad they’ve stuck with the original format and still have some of the original games.

My Daughter has watched some of the original Gladiators on YouTube so she thoroughly enjoyed it too.

Yes he was a special athlete he did go off the rails afterwards though later in life a case of not practicing what he preached.Forgot the name of the UK guy who went up against him long haired pasty looking wirey guy karate expert Phil something. Also remember an ex strongman contender did well all through.then lost it all on the eliminator too much muscle just gassed out.Remember when they literally had to stop the travelator to let the contenders get up it who kept going back down. Some of those ninja warrior contestants would be great at the final race but probably not have the size in the events against the gladiators.Top level crossfitters probably the best all round athletes to excel on the show.

It is not all about fitness, although a fast eliminator time would make up for a fairly big points deficit from the other games.

Some of the events would suit mobile people who had played rugby to a reasonable level.

That Finley lad was a very good all-rounder.

Really enjoyable, maybe they've ramped up the panto a bit too early but I guess they want to build up the characters as soon as possible.

You are right - once it was clear who had won, they did used to slow the travelator down to help the "loser" get up it.

Was a good dose of nostalgia but the Gladiators are like someone ordered the original cast from Wish.

Wife and I confused the kids by shouting out which character from the original each was. John Anderson lived in my home town so I served a few of them during my Saturday job...

Just caught up this evening and must say I enjoyed it as did my young kids, they've pretty much stuck to a winning formula...think the father and son presenter duo doesn't work for me and perhaps some ex sporting stars would be a better choice. Nice easy Sat night TV and a show promoting physical fitness can only be a good thing.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. It is what Saturday evening tv should be, good family entertainment.
There was me saying as I did back in the 90’s that I could do better and the Mrs reminding me that I am now 57.

Disappointed that You Bet! wasn't on it and I've been sat waiting for London's Burning to come on tonight but doesn't look like it's happening... ah, I miss 90's Saturday TV!
