Band of brothers is one of the finest pieces of television ever, the Pacific was pretty good too. I was looking forward to masters of air till I saw the trailer.
Looks a mess of CGI, sort of like Dunkirk was.
Agreed about BoB and the Pacific. BoB is one of my favourite tv series ever. I wasn't a fan of the Pacific on the first watch, couldn't get into the characters like BoB. But I watched it again towards the end of last year and really enjoyed it.Looks a mess of CGI, sort of like Dunkirk was.
MoTA, I'll watch it, but at the moment, it's not looking like it's the same standard as the other two. So, hoping it's a load better than first look.
Although these are some of the best I have seen, I still think that there is something about aircraft that the CG people just never get right, or at least, never capture. A lot of this was good, but there were still one of two shots where you just think, 'nah', and that takes me right out of it.
Most unrealistic thing so far though by a country mile is the almost total lack of smoking in evidence!

CGI works best for objects and features that don't really exist in the real world - that's why it works well with dinosaurs, fantasy creatures and sci-fi etc.
Most of us are familiar with real world objects such as cars, ships and aircraft and we know how they behave and how they move. Some of us know these things quite intimately ()
Therefore, when rendered using CGI it is very obvious if they get some of these actions wrong - such as aircraft making impossible turns or manoeuvers. Looking at the odd trailer I've seen for "Masters of the Air" it looks to me they have packed too many aircraft into too small a space - it looks rather dense.
We have real footage from the period of what mass B-17 daylight raids look like so they have no excuse for not getting it right.
Or maybe they thought that showing the bombing raids in a realistic way would not be exciting enough for a generation brought up on "Transformer" movies and computer games?

Tbh I doubt very much if it's aimed at that generation if they could actually be bothered to watch it in the first place Smollet said:

Day off so watched the first two episodes earlier.
So far, enjoying a lot.
It's got such a hard act to follow with BoB though. It's holding my attention but the soft focus is annoying unless is supposed to convey that England has a permanent light mist covering it everyday. So far, enjoying a lot.

Dunkirk was a terrible film I thought-nearly half a million troops on the beaches, but in Christopher Nolan’s effort it looked like about 150 soldiers!! Looks a mess of CGI, sort of like Dunkirk was.
The 1958 Dunkirk is a far better film I think.
Anyway I’m busting to watch masters of the air later tonight-it’s got a hell of a lot to live up to!!
I enjoyed the first two episodes,but I’m a proper ww2 geek.
I really don’t think that major John Egan was as much as a tt as he’s being portrayed in this,I certainly don’t remember it from the book.
I really didn’t like the dig at the RAF for bombing at night and for saying the Americans did the same-the RAF top brass suggested the same but it fell on deaf ears.
And the thing that boils my piss is the Hollywood cocking of guns!
“ ok guys get ready , here they come” and they cock their guns while over Germany ffs!
A small detail but it’s infuriating

Gutted to see this is on Apple.
Just subscribe for a month then, if the program is good it will be well worth the months fee (and you can also check all the other stuff on there too).Strangely disappointed by MotA. Yes the airborne action scenes were thrilling, but a lot of the dialogue was unintelligible and Bucky and Buck seemed to be competing for who could overact the most. I think I'm going to find it difficult to empathise with these two. The character of the narrator is interesting.

Looking forwards to this later.
12 weeks after getting to Thorpe abbot 2 out of 36 of the original b17s were left.
Average of 11 missions before you got shot down
One raid was 1200 b17s and 400 mustangs.
It took three hours to get all the aircraft over the target
Do you listen to the We have ways podcast? This was on there recently-astounding numbers!!12 weeks after getting to Thorpe abbot 2 out of 36 of the original b17s were left.

I love the fact that a Mosquito could carry a slightly bigger bomb load to Berlin than a B17 could.I know what I’d rather be flying, given the choice
I enjoyed it although it hasn’t grabbed me like Band of Brothers did. I remember that being compelling viewing from the get go…even on a recent re-watch. The cgi does look a bit poor at times, one particularly shot stood out as a B17 taxied out. I’m definitely going to stick with it & hope I can get invested in the characters as I did with BoB.
I’ll watch the whole thing through, however two episodes in and I can’t help but think it’s a little too corny/cheesy/action-y. Cringe-making lines from good old folksy country boys, (“rack ‘em up and knock ‘em down”) and most of them mumbled/barely audible, scenes that contribute nothing (the weird “punch me” scene on the wing), too many tech things wrong (the inside of a B-17 seems quieter than the RyanAir 737 I flew the other week!) and questionable GCI scenes.
