Can anyone tell me if this is true of not?

Hadnt heard anything about it, but 'the bloke down the pub' doesnt swear he is elvis, but does swear that there is a remake coming up of the Dambusters.

Supposedly done by the bloke who did lord of the rings.

Can someone confirm or deny, or give me more detail.

I can confirm that I recall (vaguely) something on here about it, and noting that the dog's name may well be changed.

Confirm.

It is an ongoing project. A couple of years ago, Sir David Frost purchased the rights on the Paul Brickhill book and the feature film.
Peter Jackson (an avid aviation historian and enthusiast) will direct.

Who's funding it? If its Hollywood expect the yanks to develop the bouncing bomb (Barnes Wallace to be some crazy Doc Brown style scientist) and fly the mission, get the girl and save the world (again).

Sure. It won't involve any dams, won't be set during the 40s and will be about the USAF. Puff Daddy will be doing the soundtrack and it will star Van Diesel. It will be an enormous hit with the new generation of British fktards that stagger around our streets unable to string a coherent sentence together and in desperate need of vial of syruppy, blue juice from a vet. biggrin

It is true, although funding could be a hurdle at the moment, Weta have already built a nearly full scale Lancaster (they were going to make a few but iirc they are just using one and CGI-ing off that).

Also iirc theres a strong chance of it being filmed in New Zealand.

I suspect that Peter Jackson will do what he likes, where he likes, (New Zealand), when he likes and how he likes. He is a money machine as far as Lalawood is concerned and that is all that matters.

I also think that he will be very accurate in the story telling.

I don't think this film is dependent on US funding so I don't see "rewriting of history" being an issue.

The issue over the dog's name has caused a bit of a kerfuffle in the UK and it remains to be seen how it is dealt with.
The added problem is that the name was also used as the code word to be reported back by Gibson when each dam was breached.

I think this is a minor issue and I hope Jackson will use the opportunity to correct the historical inaccuracies in the original film. He will also be able to depict the bouncing bomb (which was a mine in reality) accurately as the technical details of the weapon were still on the Top Secret list in 1955 and could not be shown in the original movie.

IIRC it was only partially successful in that not all three were breached and the number of planes that returned 11 with eight being lost represented a heavy toll for one mission.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Chastise

CGI Lancasters. Great. They'll flying at Mach 2, looping the loop and there'll be a 'wing-walk/kitten-rescue/manual engine start sequence' included.
