Bryn singing in the church; fan bloody tastic!

It's always been my girlfriend that's liked Gavin and Stacey, however, last night I genuinely laughed out loud on a fair few occasions.

I finally succumbed to the hype and gave Gavin & Stacey a go tonight.

Nope, I don't get it.

ETA: Watching QI now, to prove that Rob Brydon can be funny.

Same here - I gave it a go last night, and I just don't get it. A shame really, because I wanted to like it given the hype it's recieved, but I can't help but think it's massively overrated!

To the people that loved it - what other comedies do you like?

But did you not think it was lazy? The blokes been on Top of the Pops since the last show so to use his singing in such a big way was weak.

It would be like The (uk) Office having a one off speacial and them opening with Brent doing his funny dance. Funny, but would leave you feeling slightly cheated.

So, one of the problems (Although I may be wrong) Is that you really shouldn't have started watching the third season. It's like watching 24 from the middle of the season. The characters have already been established and if you don't understand their quirks, it would not have been funny because that is what the writers are now playing on.

I think it's hilarious, but then I like simple humour.

I haven't seen any of the first series' either - the first one I watched was last year's christmas special.

As for other stuff I like, loads. It's a comedy show - some people like it, some don't.

I laughed my arse off at Smithy's excuse for being in a disabled space and Uncle Bryn's practice interview rofl

I guess coming into it now, you will miss some of the running jokes and references to previous events.

I reckon this series is at least as strong as previous ones.

I was laughing hard last night. Bryn's interview was just mad. The curry bit was also spot on. I love teh fact that the Welsh and the Essex folk are so different - and the details are just brilliant. The "Owen Jones" joke is classic too.

Thought last night's episode was excellent, better than the previous week. As others have said, for those who don't get it start watching from the start of series one, it will all make more sense then.

Also I've never really seen it as laugh-out-loud funny. Some bits make me laugh but it's more cringey and warm-hearted comedy etc, just kinda makes you smile all through it smile

Ps. I like Patridge, Brass eye, Father Ted, Scrubs, Futurama, Black Adder, The Office, Curb your enthusiasm, Peep Show, Spaced, The Mighty Boosh and various other things. Hope that helps! smile

Really surprise people are liking this...i've watched from the first show and always found it ok (wife loved it) and even stuff i didnt like i still saw where the humour was - i never "didnt get it"

But this time round (in fact, since the xmas special) it feels soooo weak. Last night was just one long "this will be funny idea" after another. Lets have Smithy sing down the phone, lets have people dance like idiots, lets have a 10 min sketch on buying a curry.....even wife thought it poor.

They have also dumbed it down a lot with gag explanations added in for idiots....last week the Noel Edmonds gag was done at the font...we didnt need Gavin raising it later for anyone stupid watching. Likewise, last night Nessa's dad is off to work on midsummer's whatever....she says "say high to John for me" - thats it, theres the gag and its funny enough given her character.....then we get the "john who" "you know john nettles" ok, thats killed it...but no, we then get "Bergerac"....right, we get it thanks.

In contrast i have never seen the Thick of It and caught a show the other night, the gag that made me go out and buy every episode up till now was - as a lightweight TV reporter leaves their office, someone says to him "say hi to dexter fletcher for me" ...... and that was it, so much better for the fact those whe get it dont have it spoilt with extra lines.

Suppose each to their own, but I can't believe the number of people who don't "get" Gavin & Stacey. Think it is genius personally - definitely the best comedy on British TV since The Office. The new series is as good as last ones IMO. One thing you have to do though is watch the whole series from the first episode - you just won't get the characters and the running jokes otherwise.

It's not perfect for sure, but compared to the absolute dross that gets pumped out most of the time, it's as good as there is right now sit-comwise...

it's not "not getting it"...it has VERY few jokes, certainly for a sitcom. Its more like a short drama thats not very dramatic.

if you sent a script of the last episode to the bbc as a new premise.....you'd not even get a response!
