This is what happens when a comedy becomes focused on relationships rather than its original storyline.
It's been on the cards forever, in order to create 'big stories' for series ends etc they have to give up things - the first was the introduction of Amy and Bernie, they're both good characters but they had to give up the Raj / Howard women chasing double act, Neither are as funny as they used to be.By putting Leonard and Penny together they've had to give up 'sexy' penny in favour of this sort of boring career driven version and Leonard's character doesn't really do much not other than suffer Sheldon.
Sheldon is the only character left with anything going for him and they're slowly giving that up to keep up the romance angle - once he throws one into Amy there's nothing left to do so I expect they'll drag that out over the remaining series they're contracted to do and it'll end on a sentimental look-back before Sheldon and Amy move in together, Penny moves in with Leonard or worse one of the couples has a baby.

Presumably that one's out of the scriptwriter's hands and they just have to go with writing a baby in when on the girls gets pregnant?I remember the start of the previous season that we were all saying it was pretty dull and next to no jokes so I'll hold out and see if it gets better, 20 minute episodes aren't as frustrating as the hour long rubbish shows!
I started saying the same at the beginning of season 6, of which I sporadically watched about half, not much of season 7 and I'm not even sure what season we're on now?
I think they were far too quick to stick people into couples and lose those original character traits that so much humour was based around. Two and a Half Men managed 10 seasons without much character development and I think that was still relatively funny.

They'll have to re-caption the opening credits now. I wonder if they will go back & change her name on the last two years of programmes?Sparky137 said:
Um, er, just watched the second episode of the new series.......... all I can say is: slightly better than the first but still too soapy by far. At least there were a couple of funny moments though.
My download stalled and I gave up.I hope it improved - I watched the first episode again last night and while I chuckled at a few moments, it was Season 1/2 funny....

Sheldon has changed. he's less "Sheldonish".
With all the change around him, I would've been surprised if he hadn't changed at least a little. Old Sheldon is still there, and is allowed out sometimes, but he becomes boring if he doesn't change.Yes, after 9 series, I too am wanting closure on the show. Hopefully only 2 more series left
