Wiki has some interesting bits. Apparently jean claude van damme was originally cast as the predator and did a few scenes which are still in the film. He was replaced by kevin peter hall who was harry in harry and the hendersons.

The story also goes that the Van Damme version of the Predator was going to feature 'robot' like extending arms and legs but they had to abandon that over cost and effects issue.

The number of time this movie gets quoted on PH, I reckon its Pistonheads favourite film.

I've met 'billy' and can confirm that even now, at 60-odd, he is fking massive and looks properly scary. He was wearing a white suit, which would have got a ruthless pisstaking had anyone else been wearing it.

Agreed with all previous posts, great great film - featuring one of my favourite Arnie lines:

"Wassamatter? CIA got you pushing too many pencils?"

Y'all appreciate that the franchise re-boot starts in a few months with the release of Predators due on the 7th July this year?

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, its not a sequel or prequel - its a re-boot...and...there are rumours of a VERY surprising cameo right at the end which, if the storyline I've read is true, is pretty stunning and re-writes previous 'cannon' on this series.

Anyway, entitled Predators its set on an alien planet and the basic storyline is that half-a-dozen or so hand picked nasty sons-of-bhes are abducted from Earth and dumped there for the teenage Preds to hunt/kill in order to 'gain their spurs' (or whatever).

The humans include a Mafia hit-man, Martial Artist (ninja-type), War-time Torturer etc IIRC and a few other dis-agreeable types.

Anyway, suffice to say that from what I've read you'll still side with the humans and the Preds don't get it all their own way.

Hope thats not too much of a spoiler and of course my 'source' could be wrong.

It is actually directed by Nimród Antal.

Jesse Ventura was delighted to find out from the wardrobe department that his arms were 1" bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger's. He suggested to Schwarzenegger that they measure arms, with the winner getting a bottle of champagne. Ventura lost because Schwarzenegger had told the wardrobe department to tell Ventura that his arms were bigger.

Class hehe

My favourite:

An attempt was made to get shots of the Predator swinging from tree to tree using a monkey in a red special-effects suit. However, the monkey kept removing the suit and the idea was abandoned.

yes

My mistake. it is indeed directed by Nimród Antal at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin.

It's a reboot but is a sequel to the original, so that is good.

In the comic which took the story past the film Dutch had a big brother called Schaeffer. This character should be in the film.

If that info is right, just having Danny Trejo in it makes it an absolute cult classic already.

If you can stand his style of commentary, the directors commentary is good on this - lots of issues with the "autumnal" forest scenes!

My son went to "dress like a hero from a story" school party as Dutch....complete with flat top buzz cut! (all the other 8 year olds were peter pan and willy wonka's.) He wanted to wander round all day kicking open doors yelling knock knock...talked him out of that though.
