Battlestar Galactica

I bought the box set mid December and last week got to the end. I think it was absolutly outstanding. I was dubious at first and loved/hated most of the characters at some point but the writing and direection was astonishing.
My only problem is I have now just started Babylon 5 and my god you can see the difference of 15 years of technology!

As good as BSG is, I still prefer B5 and its overall story. Was a shame that the Rangers got cancelled. My only problem is I have now just started Babylon 5 and my god you can see the difference of 15 years of technology!

Never liked that. There are some early eps I have not seen. Hadn't seen the one where Starbuck flies a raiders, that was cool. It's easy to forget how differently the characters interact at the start, Adama and the Prez not exactly being best mates
Love BSG... I got the complete box set for Christmas from my Mum last year (mine included the Mini-series, not sure why the earlier poster's didn't?). As I was staying at my Mum's place for a few days over Christmas there was the inevitable point where we got hacked off with there being nothing on TV so we put the Mini series on. She promptly got hooked and whenever I go visit we end up watching 5 or 6 episodes, currently we're halfway through season 3 and its very funny to watch Mum struggle with all the mysteries that I of course know all the answers to

I'm still waiting for the second half of season of Caprica. Any ideas when it comes on Sky?
I don't know yet, I set a thing on the Sky website so they send me an e-mail telling me when it's due to start, if I remember I'll post it on here. Caprica was a bit naff, but I want to see how it ends.Well as i'm the OP, i can maybe sign out of this thread with a resounding thumbs up for the mini-series, loved the ending and some of the more poignant story lines are still fresh in my mind. May even sit through it again!
Currently on season two of The Wire, another classic methinks.
Dexter still my fave though.

All you need to know is Apollo's return to New Caprica.
I love that bit, reminds me of the old one.But The bit I can watch over and over in that ep is where Galactic exits from FTL, just so unexpected and dangerous in the story, can't wait

"Not all of them"
At that moment the episode jumped up several notches and that character became my utter favourite in the show. Such an utterly powerful moment.
Hell, the whole show was bloody brilliant from start to finish for me, even the 'filler' episodes.

That whole episode is Classic, but the bit that makes it stand out for me is one line of dialogue right at the end and the way it's delivered....

Well that episode on on Tuesday...still get a buzz thinking of that lateral manoeuvre that Adama pulls off.
Been thinking recently aboot how I prefer certain kinds of shows over others. And found this

Concerned about the toll on ratings of complex story arcs, networks sometimes ask showrunners to reduce serialization. Network executives believe that standalone episodes serve as a better jumping on point for new viewers, although this may result in a conflict with regular watchers who tend to prefer more focus on story arcs. Alias began as a more serialized show but later became more stand-alone under network pressure.[7] During season 3 of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, showrunner Ronald D. Moore was also pressured to make episodes more stand-alone. This move resulted in negative criticism from both fans and critics, and Moore revealed in the Season 3 finale podcast that the network finally accepted that standalone episodes simply do not work for the story he is trying to tell. Moore has also stated that a major reason why the network was reluctant to greenlight Caprica was because story-arc-heavy series notoriously have difficulty in picking up new viewers, as compared to a series composed of mostly standalone episodes
So that's why we got the fillers, stupid producers and their uncreative beancounting ways. Halb said:
Idiots! Wonder why not, especially since the Mini-series was a SKy co-production as well, one o0f the few drams they have put money into!
I see 107 is called Sky Watch or something now.
I'd forgotten about this thread...I see 107 is called Sky Watch or something now.
I eventually found out why Sky Atlantic didn't kick off with the Mini-series. It seems that even though Sky had a hand in it, "SyFy" actually own the UK Broadcast rights.
