I watched Luther with some trepidation having had mixed feelings about the first series .
I was dissapointed with this first episode.
It was trying to be all things to all people and veered from parodies of the Sweeny to rom com to gothic horror.
The story line was muddled and at times unbelievable and too much was crammed into this one episode.
I enjoyed The Wire and the character that Idris Elba played was very good .
I am left wondering whether Mr Elba is a one trick pony in that he is rather good at playing himself.

Totally agree. Would have made more sense if it were called Maverick Cop - John Cliche.I was dissapointed with this first episode.

Glad I'm not alone. John McCliche?

Yes, OK - it's a bit far fetched, but it's great entertainment.
I'm really pleased the BBC is making dramas again - I've got very sick and tired of endless reality shows involving cooking/property/auctions!
Just had an idea...
Nigella's new show involves her moving out of the family home, so... two herberts find her another suitable property to buy. One hour's show on Ch4.
She has too much stuff to fit in her divorce house, so another two wide boy herberts buy it from her for peanuts then sell it off at some grotty auction. 30 minute show on daytime TV.
Then, everyone is getting a bit hungry, so we set up a TV studio to mimic her new kitchen, Nigella gurns into camera while licking unidentfied goo from her fingers and a load of actors pitch up to pretend to be her friends and eat her culinary delights at the end of the show. 30 minutes prime time, just before Luther starts.
And that's why Luther, however far fetched, is a good thing!!
