I will give it another go, but I think Elba is carrying the show. The red head is hot though.

I remember a scene in 'Rome' (another HBO triumph) with Luther's Missus half naked doing the nasty with that Kevin McKidd fella.

She's stunning looking.

What was the music played during the closing credits?

Have to say I wasn't sure about it.

Can't put my finger on why but I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected too.

I'll stick with - if only to see a bit more of ginger if nothing else.

Golly, a police procedural about a maverick cop with personal problems; that's never been tried before, how daring of the BBC to stretch the envelope with primetime TV like that.rolleyes

It was a bit meh, it passed the time. Plot riddled with holes, the biggest being the dog would be autopsied, or at least examined externally and the nefarious game foiled. Never mind melty glocks, what happened to the brass? This ridiculousness aside, there was no exploration of any of the usual precursors of sociopathy, torturing/killing animals/pets, eating people's livers, etc.

Indira Varma, yes please; Ruth Wilson, yes please with custard.

This is just too far-fetched. Luthers powers of observation seem to have attained god-like proportions and, why did no one go after the gunman on the roof?

First time I've watched this, seems pretty bad. The dialogues not very good either;

'were gonna have to face it, we're off the case'

Nobody spots the gunman, nobody thinks, maybe this is a trap... because he's done that twice already!

Did anybody else find the female killer in this really unnerving. I know she's supposed to be but I thought the actress pulled it off really well.
Yes, and a little bit sexy?

No?

Ok I'll get my coat.
I guess you could say she is sexy from the Stevie Wonder perspective.

I will give it another go next week - it had promise but did seem a bit OTT at times.

i didn't mean sexy from a purely visual standpoint. The lass had a mouth like Cherie Blair- letterbox-esque.

Nice penchent for wigs though wink

I thought Luthers boss is trying too hard to put an East End accent on
also Luther should have stuck doing Stringer Bell

The series is a joke -

too many things wrong with the plots

Hopefully Omar will get to him before long.
Only Omar (with a little help from Brother Mouzone) can save this now. Someone put Stringer out of his misery. (again)

Watched the first two of these late last night through a Jameson's haze (who am I, McNulty of something!).. Agree with most of the posts above.. Idris Elba is good in it but it's way OTT and underlines how much better the Wire is than this type of standard cop show format. Ruth Wilson is absolutely lovely though (in a dirty psycho way!) and the production values are good.. London locations looking stunning in HD too.. although her Barbican flat seemed to have upped and moved right by the Thames at one bit!

The second episode reminded me of an old Professionals storyline or something.. not that that's necessarily a bas thing.

I rather enjoyed it. It's not perfect, its not the Wire nor claims to be but I found it worth a watch compared to some of the 'Crime Drama's' on telly.

I've never actually seen The Wire, maybe that's why I like Luther so much.

The Wire will ruin the rest of TV for you let alone other Crime Dramas. The single most consistently excellent TV series ever made. Not even the West Wing or the Sopranos managed to keep such a flawless record for quality as they both had their fair share of duff episodes.
