Same deal with the old 240 Volvo he drives, trying to give the show a more gritty authentic feel, anything to offset the new age Evo X and Outlander marked cars prominently positioned.

I am still reserving judgement on it. It wasn't bad, but a bit too far fetched to be the sort of realistic, hard edged dramas I was hoping for.

One disadvantage is that he has some very big shoes to fill having come from The Wire which is *the* best police drama ever produced.
Yes of course the Volvo too.
I didnt know he came from that show dont know much of his past history.Heard he is/was a DJ.
Swmbo has added him to her list if you know what I mean rolleyes
Just started watching the box sets, plenty of plot holes but enjoyable.

Oh and I think Mrs PR has added Ruth Wilson to her list.

Mrs Wilson, the recent BBC Drama in which Ruth Wilson starred in, was a true story about her grandparents and if you watched it you will realise she's not from a "normal" family, if there is such a thing. She is a great actress and ideal for her character in Luther.

I just don't get the love for Luther.
I watched the 1st episode and was really unimpressed, both with production and acting.
Reminded me of an episode of Minder ,on speed.
It's just drama by the numbers, throw in a bit of pervy, throw in a bit of dark comedy.
I've followed Idris Elba but nothing compares to his acting in The Wire.
He just plays his alter ego, big tough geezer, but no real depth and just goes through the motions.
Same old...same old.

Enjoy watching Luther, but still - Ludicrous! hehe

I cannot see how he's never arrested, sacked, locked, up, or dead! Struggling to see how he'll come back from this one but will be fun watching none the less.

yes Maserati Quattroporte
Shouldn't it have some 'vents' in the wing behind the front wheel and a massive trident badge in the radiator grille?
It's a Maserati

13 year old Maserati as a daily, he really is nuts.

Watched Episode 2 last night to see if my first thoughts on the subject were a bit harsh.
Alice definitely brought a lot more to the party.
Gone up from a 4 to a 6 out of 10.

Not sure, they'd just kill each other. It'd be just like alien vs preditor.

The character definitely adds to the programme when used properly.

I'm not sure the 'cameo' in series 3(?) was that worthwhile, but this is shaping up well.

I predict George’s Jag might not make it to the end of the show tonight - posh enough to impress non car people, but not quite smart enough for a supposedly successful gangster, and cheap enough to trash.

I seemed to recognise a few of the locations.... wasn’t the woman’s house (Hermione Norris) used in Spooks..... and the pool I have def seen before!!
Yes...I recognised that house too. I thought it was Silent Witness but I certainly recognise it.
Also looks a lot like a couple of houses featured on grand designs , the concrete shuttered walls and the staircase ?
It is a Grand Designs house https://www.dezeen.com/2008/10/20/house-by-eldridg...

Has it been explained at all in Luther why he lives in a council flat that’s falling to pieces and drives an 80’s Volvo?

Or is that realistic based on today’s Police wages?

I thought I recognised it , that said , it could have been any one of quite a few of recent grand designs projects what with the concrete shutter finish !

I enjoyed it but thought the back story was too overplayed in ep 3 & 4. It was almost like the writers got bored of the serial killer

Here's a theory and a spot from Twitter, I'll spoiler it incase anyone hasn't seen episode 4 yet...
https://twitter.com/Melissa_Tomlin_/status/1081311...
Alice isn't dead, she survived the fall and hung around wearing the balaclava. Boss knew she was still around since doing the blood tests on the stuff in Luther's flat.

Before anyone says that's too outlandish and OTT, this is Luther we're talking about hehe

His boss was driving an aged 7 series as well and he's a Chief Inspector.

Seems to be the way things are in fictional London cop shows, the character in Stan Lees Lucky Man drives and wrecks a seemingly endless supply of E28 bmws. Sometimes blue, sometimes red.
