The Wire will ruin the rest of TV for you let alone other Crime Dramas. The single most consistently excellent TV series ever made. Not even the West Wing or the Sopranos managed to keep such a flawless record for quality as they both had their fair share of duff episodes.
Strong words! I'll see if I can acquire the back-catalogue Arese said:

More Wire in the Blood than the Wire.
I've never actually seen The Wire, maybe that's why I like Luther so much.We took in a stray cat a few years ago, she was a mess, filthy, covered in fleas, helpless and quite ill, but she came good and is as much a part of this family as anyone else. We call her "Bubbles", you will understand why when you watch it.
As for Luther, I deleted it from Sky+, nuff said.

In a recent piece in Variety, creator Neil cross mentions the third (and final) series as well as a possible movie:
Variety said:
Fans of "Luther" will be happy to know that work on the third series has already begun, though Cross hints that it will probably be its last. "Idris (Elba) is a busy man."
Signs look good, however, that it won't be the last time audiences see the character. "There's a strong possibility there will be a 'Luther' movie in the near future," says Cross.
