Dear All,
I hated Luther on sight within the first 15 minutes of its first program. I thought I'd give it another go as there's so much Luther-love here (and elsewhere).
It is still awful, I managed 20 minutes this time. From the tinted appearance to the preposterous plot by way of over the top acting it still reeks.
And they canned the sublime Zen for this, pah,
regards,
Jet

I thought it was excellent.
The opening scenes with the woman in her flat, getting ready for bed completely unaware that her killer was under the bed, were very creepy simply because they were completely silent.
You could hear a pin drop in our house when it was on.
It isn't like other police dramas. You either get it or you don't. Personally, I think it is excellent.

Just getting into this. Series 1 just about to finish on Alibi
Pretty good, bit some silly stuff.
Why this woman would want to call the police for a cat stuck in the loft but one minute later, when her husbands head comes smashing through the ceiling simply decide to hide in a cupboard, was a little beyond me..
But I did like, after the pretty thing drives into him -
"Look what I've done to your car!"
"don't worry, it always looks like that".

OK - so who else thinks the gore-fest in the kitchen was OTT? Not that I'm adept at recreating liquidiser-meets-fingers scenarios, but that looked more like I'd imagine removal of both hands at the wrist...
(actually my Dad did remove his left hand above the wrist - assures us it was messy but not in the least fatal)
And as for the 'copper brought back from retirement' routine it's getting a little passe.
Still like Idris Elba though - one of the better things I've seen him in.

I really enjoyed the first two series but felt disappointed with last night. So much so, in fact, that I kept noticing little annoying things:
Would an internal investigation team really be operating from the basement of a shop rather than an anonymous office?
Why did she never use the ratchet button when putting the handbrake on in the Jeep?
Why was he using a reel to reel tape machine the listen in live and review the wire tap?
Why was it called a garbage shoot. If the Americans are going to buy the series that wouldn't put them off so why pander?
As has already been pointed out. Why did she think it would be OK to phone the police about a cat in the loft (not attic, I seem to recall!) why didn't she think about phoning them when her husband is being murdered in there?
One review said that it feels a bit cartoon like and I'd have to agree. Hopefully I can accept that and enjoy the rest.

Agreed there were a few 'off things' especially around the 'retired copper' (did a good turn in The Departed) I'm sure a few, if not all of them will be revealed in good time as plot points rather than mistakes - well perhaps not the Americanisums and Handbrake abuse.
Also, I've never fully understood the hatred of Luther by fans of 'The Sublime Zen' which I'm sure is it's full title, I don't recall anyone from the BBC ever saying "we're cancelling Zen from our Winter schedule, because we've already got a crime fighting programme that's nothing like it in our Summer schedule".
Anyway, by the looks of the FB pics, Alice is back next week

First two noises they heard were nothing like a cat. I know I would have run out of the house screaming like a girl if I heard similar coming from my attic.
Alice won't be pleased about Luther's new bird, anxious to see if she unleashes her full nutter. She has the potential to make the serial killer look tame by comparison.

That seems to be standard fare these days. See also 'Hunted' (I think that's what it was called), where they also had the requisite flickering flourescent tubes just to add to the ambience.Amirhussain said:
Brilliant episode, the guy creeping out under the bed when Emily was killed gave me a fking heart attack. Good to see his still got his tank of a Volvo.
Going to be exciting especially now that Justin is turning anti-Luther.
Horrible, nightmare making stuff, but for me the worst bit was the scene in the attic looking at the figure under the plastic sheet who then exploded forward. In fact just typing this is making the hairs on my neck stand up!Going to be exciting especially now that Justin is turning anti-Luther.

Each to his own of course, but wasn't Zen canned for being badly acted, hammy, jocular ste?I hated Luther on sight within the first 15 minutes of its first program. I thought I'd give it another go as there's so much Luther-love here (and elsewhere).

Got to say following this up with Hannibal at 10 on Sky Living makes for disturbing telly.
