Gutted I didnt catch it sooner. Very well made. Doesnt try too hard and as a result keeps it very edgy. Ben is growing into a really likeable but well rounded character IMO. Taking on a lot of Coopers hard lined traits without ruining his soft likeable nature.

The banter between them (especially by Ochoa's son) outside, by the vending machine was excellent - especially the line about him being a "big spender" laugh

I kind of expected/hoped Cooper would get his comeuppance although I do think hes a fantastic character and very 'real'. Enjoyed seeing Ben develope amd come to the front at the end. I think Cooper sees a very father/son relationship between the two.

Looking forward to seeing Sammy kick ass in uniform too...........I can see a gunfight coming!

Blimey, I thought it got cancelled after Season 3?

I missed out on Season 3. Seemed to have passed me by.

Does is still feature the dude from OC?

Is there a thread for this yet? Just saw an ad on More4 and it started last week.

Billed as grittiest cop show since The Wire - big shoes to fill! I've set Sky Plus but will have to find Ep1 on the net.

The brief preview looked pretty good. Anyone been watching it from the states?
It's nothing like The Wire.

More closer to The Bill but Southland is what The Bill should have been IMO.

Oh you fking Dancer! Thank you.

I really like Southland. It's one of the more realistic Police procedural series I've seen. Series link set.

Not sure if walking the streets of Sun Hill compares winkhehe

It's superb - gritty, well written, well acted.

If you're sick of over-produced, glossy police shows then give it a go smile

I just caught up on the first two episodes of this new series, and what a start!
The end of the first episode was brutal!

Very enjoyable start, long may it continue!

If you like Southland, try reading a few Joseph Wambaugh books. He was an LA police sergeant turned author. His stories hvae a general thread runnign through them but they're filled with little stories either that he remembers from his days on the force or that he's gleaned from meeting with current policemen. Excellent books, funny and sad and very realistic. Start with the Hollywood station series.

I enjoyed the first two episodes. They weren’t exceptional but still very good. I was surprised by Lucy Liu’s performance; I thought Hollywood A-lister wouldn’t be interested in small time drama and would probably just be ‘going through the motion’ but her performance was very good and a great addition.

I miss Detective Lydia Adams’s old partner (Josie Ochoa) and her son though; there were some great performances and they had good chemistry last season.

I’ve been reading this American TV blog and apparently the show had to cut a few characters due to budget cut.

Thoroughly enjoyable series so far. Good mix of drama and the odd laugh.

I find it funny they make the porn so obviously fuzzy but show a mangled woman.
