Because it gets hidden away with no exposure, at daft times.I think the first series - or at least the first part of it - aired at the reasonably sensible time of 10pm, although I can't remember whether it was on C4 or E4/More 4. It pretty quickly ended up getting pushed later and later into the schedule. There was little chance of happening across it by accident.
I remember that I only caught it because I had seen it mentioned in the "What to watch today" bit of the paper that day, not having seen any kind of promos or trailer for it.
Shame really. I agree that it is really well written and acted.

Did Ben plant the gun?
At the beginning of the show Ben was cleaning two guns, one black and one silver with black grip. Is the silver gun the same one as the one by Ronnie’s side at the end of the eposide? When I first watched the programme my immediate thought was that it was the same gun and that Ben planted it.

The above review and most viewers agreed; but two posters (KansasDan & Trumble 21st March 2012) suggested the two guns were not the same so either a) Ben didn’t plant the gun and it was a ‘good legitimate shoot’ or b) it was meant to be the same gun (i.e Ben did plant it) but the show’s crews had messed up the prop.
Or c) As Dominic (1st April 2012) said, ‘The scene where Ben shoots the pimp is supposed to leave a question about what happened. The focus wasn't on Ben chasing but Phillips trying to catch up and only hearing gunshots. It was a different, but similar gun. Chosen to confuse at the end as to what really happened.’ The show wanted us to question ourselves on purpose.

Season 4 was very good, I love the Tang/Cooper partnership (great actress & actor) storyline, Lydia’s storyline was a bit weak at times but I’ve loved her for three seasons; she needs to kick some ass again (like the shotgun scene in season 1 and the shoot-out scene with Det. Josie Ochoa in season 3). Ben & Sammy have been solid.
Shame we probably won’t see Lucy Liu in season 5; she’s been excellent.
Very enjoyable 7.8/10
