Big fan of Sherlock with MiniMadness an even bigger fan.

This series started ok, got better with Toby Jones but last night was a bit too much Saw, Crystal Maze navel gazing for me.

Long running series always used to get comments about always sorting out the problem/case/space time continium in one episode with no real long term consequences. When some series started to include a bit more of an arc over the series I jumped back on and looked forward to how it was all tied up. Now I do realise that finishing a series on a cliffhangar and then eventually wrapping it up cannot be done easily and however its done you get some differing reactions (Battlestar Galactica, great ending for me but not for a lot of other fans).

However Moffat really seems to be having more and more convoluted plot lines for a series arc, especially in Dr Who and this seems to spread to Sherlock. The first 2 series had the Moriarty arcs but this one just didn't work for me. Attempted to be too clever and asked us to accept too many retcons and jumps in belief. Not one but two hidden siblings which Sherlock cannot remember. To top it all the wrap up was rubbish.

When it was good it was brilliant, when it was bad it was really bad!
I started watching over my laptop about halfway through, I thought redbeard was a friend, not another brother?

I was happy to see the parents involved and a lil reality brought back in

The dog wasn't a dog. He wasn't a brother either, right enough, but a childhood friend

Also, how come one of the smartest detectives in the world was unable to tell the difference between glass and thin air?? Pathetic! rofl

Yeah that was just taking the piss out of us. I'm pretty sure when he first went in there was a reflection in the glass too.

Just watched that episode and load of old tripe springs to mind. Used to really enjoy Sherlock but these last three episodes have been a bit disappointing if I am being honest.

The bit i don't understand is how on earth the manufacturer of those "glass" prison cells stays in business? I mean, in literally EVERY case they are used, the baddy escapes and runs amok causing havoc! Stick to bricks and steel and you'll be fine, that's my recommendation..... ;-)

I thought I'd stumbled across a very poor remake of 'The Prisoner' when I watched the final episode.

The Prisoner was a lot more realistic.

One of the problems with this programme is that people don't stay dead. You know that if they want a character back they'll make up a load of old bks about how they miraculously survived, which means there are no stakes. Seeing John Watson get shot isn't harrowing when you know he'll be just fine next week.

Yep I was thinking this has got too much like Dr Who and seeing the same people are involved confirms why.
Way too much focus on uber-villans and Holmes being some sort of oracle. From what I remember when the original stories had Moriarty connections it was the occasional normal criminal event being instigated by him and was much more in the background and didn't affect the actual deductions or outcomes. These days it seems everything has to have some over-the-top villlan going toe-to-toe with Holmes.
Be interested to see someone like Anthony Horowitz take this over. He has the love of the original stories , the ability to create new ones and the intelligence to write proper detective stories.

That one was pretty heavy handed. So just like all the other references!

What was the trick? I watched for an hour before switching over but must have missed it.

ETA: Surely you don't mean that it was there all the time except when she walked straight through it when she jump on Sherlock?

Not a good end or in fact last two series.

Eurus reminded me of Queen Elizabeth from Blackadder, I expected her to call for Melchy ..

So. If Moffatt and Gatiss can just park their egos for five minutes, leave out all references to Moriarty, Euros and Mary and just get back to Sherlock and Watson, with Lestrade and a bit of Mycroft, Molly and Mrs Hudson thrown in, they could certainly write more Sherlocks and I for one would be happy to watch.
Totally agree with this. I enjoyed watching when they were solving crimes, but the Holmes family spiral was just dull.

I have read that BBC's Countryfile had more viewers than the final episode of Sherlock.

But it's probably the viewers fault for not being clever enough.. hehe

As Countryfile describes a countryside utterly alien to me- despite having lived in rural backwaters for decades - and as its presenters have a style which makes Blue Peter sound like Proust I am not remotely surprised.
