It's trying to be too clever for its own good - pretty dull as a consequence

I will watch tomorrow in iPlayer. I hope it is better than series 3 -- I re-watched that on a plane last month and still thought it was a fluff series, really not much happening apart from the last episode and even then not too much.

Is this supposed to be clever - or are they all just having a laugh? scratchchin

The basic story was good, the dream in a dream time hopping stuff at the end was a bit OTT.

First Stephen Moffat ruined Doctor Who and now Sherlock.

Too clever by half spoiling what could have been good.

wonderful nod to the original moriarty story with the waterfall and the dig at it being melodramatic

Enjoyed it. Moriarty steals the show for me. Such a good character played so well. Just a shame he showed up in Spectre too though....

I've not seen Spectre and won't until I get a cheap DVD or it's on TV so he's still Moriarty for me smile

Agreed. Very Doctor Who-like with much wondering what the hell is going on.

First half was fun, witty, well written, surprising and interesting. Second half was self indulgent rubbish that spoiled the whole premise.

Don't worry.

He'll still be Moriarty after you watch Spectre. Same actor playing pretty much the same character.

Gatiss showing how clever he thinks he is - just like he does with Dr. Who.

They need to get some story tellers involved.

Another +1.

Too many pointless in-jokes and references to the original stories. A bit like some of the latest Dr Who episodes "let's throw everything into the mix and hope some of it works". Suggesting that Mary Morstan was having an affair with Moriarty was taken from a Sherlock spoof I read 30 years ago.....

I'm glad I watched Kingsmen instead. I have recorded Sherlock, but because this thread has gone how it has, I may not bother watching it!

Utterly brilliant . Too clever? Very clever certainly but I just loved it. Funny , pacey and smart .
