I saw it as them taking the opportunity to bump off Mary to get back to the main two characters. Because let's be honest Sherlock would work with Mary every time instead of Watson in any future story because she's better than him.

Hopefully these next two episodes will focus back on what we all enjoy.

Was the red head literally NOTHING to do with the episode? Just a bit of filler?!

Or did I miss something?
I suspect she'll turn up in later episodes as Watson's new girlfriend but then turn out out be Moriarty's sister or something.....
So no one else noticed the poster in the bus stop the second time they met?

Molly needs to be given a much larger part. They really needn't bother with the other characters AFAIAC.

Another annoying point!

If she went into hiding using a map and dice to determine where she was going totally randomly, how was there a rock in that pier with a passport hidden inside?!

Yup - maybe she'll end up being the link to the "poster subject" in subsequent episodes?

I've remembered I quit watching Sherlock and I've remembered why.

It was novel once the text on screen thing, but the whole obsession with mobile phones is looking a bit tired, and the machine gun delivery of chatter and one liners actually becomes a bit tedious, fast cutting and editing/graphic trickery, can't hide the weakness. Mary was totally unbelievable as a what? Mockney spook? Her assault on the embassy was laughable, of course the whole thing is escapist nonsense, very doctor who cares. Nice Ducati cafe racer, in the travelogue. And the villain at the end, the jealous elderly spinster, killing for company?

Interesting comment about Sherlock adopting some Night Manager and becoming more of a Bond character - you're going to like the Aston Martin car scene later in the series.

I enjoyed it. Not the best, but far from the worst. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

The best episode for me is the Scandal in Belgravia.

Rubbish.
Too far up its own arse with the secret ninja wife rubbish.
It's supposed to be a private detective solving impossible crimes through logic and deduction not explosions and fighting.
Jumped the shark.

You'll all watch it next week and come back to moan about how rubbish it was.

I have to agree with Bullett to some degree. It reminded me of the poor action scenes from Dr Who and Torchwood.

That said there was still some of the usual magic that has made this very watchable over the years.

I cannot actually remember how it ended. Too absorbed by the vinyl seated Focus - does such a car exist?

When a car is parked - all on it's own - down your distinguished driveway, does nobody notice that it sits lower because there's an adult inside it? Really? And the driver's seat is bulkier than normal? And where was his luggage?

It's all possible, just terribly unlikely.

In other news (and strangely co-incidental) Martin Freeman announced the separation from his wife over the Yuletide break, and now Dr. Watson has also been forced to leave the same woman.

I would never even have the thought cross my mind let alone know if it actually was lower than where it 'should' be sitting.

You would have to be SUCH an anorak to give it any thought.

My principal complaint (although I enjoyed it overall), was that the explosion from the Focus was so big that I thought it must have had a bomb in it that had been meant to kill the Minister, but no, that massive explosion supposedly resulted from its being hit by the car under pursuit. It didn't even seem to move forward to any appreciable extent when hit, but blew up, despite the ignition's being off.

dumb question - is it a stand alone episode or 6 episodes on the same crime/mystery?

I have episode 1 saved on planner but when I watch series I tend to wait until I have 2 or 3 stockpiled in case I want to watch a few back to back - won't bother waiting if they are stand alone stories

They're all standalone episodes, but there's a theme running through a number of them (to do with arch-villain Moriarty).

And no one's answered my question yet - can a pathologist tell when a person died just from a charred skeleton? I would not have thought so but that would have ruined the story.
