Land of the Giants was a classic for me as a kid - I used to have nightmares about being chased by that cat and play 'it' with my Airfix soldiers climbing up and down on safety pins and string. Ah for the days before electronic games when imagination could run riot . . .

But in the spirit of the OP's intention, by far the best ever for me is a prog. about:

Ah, no - sorry you've got me there. Senility well on the way. I grew up in the 60s and 70s so it was Stingray, Thunderbirds, Lost in Space and the still wonderful (v. nostalgic!) Bewitched for me. Though I still vividly remember the Flowerpot Men and watch With Mother, strings and all!
