Remember it has Docks, Ginge mentioned it when he ran away. It's either set in Grimsby or Hull.
I don't know where it is set, but large industrial inland towns like Manchester also have docks.
I just remember him wearing a Grimsby football shirt on Soccer AM, which makes me think it's there. After a quick search it looks like it was filmed in a number of places.

Nottingham? although it's supposed to be 'loosely based on' his childhood and he grew up in Uttoxeter. I think it's generic midlands, really. It's shot in Sheffield.

Thought I recognised some of it. Where the football/fight scene was looks like the old page hall flats in sheffield
That was Park Hill, rest of it seems to be filmed in Gleadless.

Anyone else spot Ian Brown as one of the coppers in the fight scene? wink
And the lad that plays the 'head bully' of the motorbike gang works in the branch of Blockbusters a mate visits, and is apparently a really nice lad, but counting down from 13....classic!

The docks are the old fish docks in Grimsby, the shoreline seen at the end of the film is just around the corner. Tommy Turgoose is a Grimsby lad, spotted by Shane Meadows in an arcade in Grimsby bunking off school IIRC.

Yup, the beach is Cleethorpes. They did well not to get the wind farms and oil rigs in shot, would have kinda stopped it looking like the 80's.

It's not meant to be anywhere in particular, just a generic northern midlands town.

My mate saw ginge in the street after the film came out and did a double take. He said "yeah, I'm Tommy Turgoose, want an autograph?".

I've just watched the last 2 episodes back to back and was thoroughly engaged in it, its just as good as the film for me. That last scene really made me feel sick though, and I literally had to fast forward it as that was perhaps the most graphic portrayal of rape which I've ever seen. Some fantastic acting and I hope tonights turns the story around. I dont think this is the end of the show by any means. I doubt we'll see it with Italia '90 though.

Agree, the last scene has left me with some rather uncomfortable feelings.
(And i've watched a lot of porn, so thought i'd seen most things disturbing)
Need to re-watch the original film too - any heads-ups as to when it may be on again?

I was shown the night before the tv series started, but it may well be available on E4, FilmFour or 4oD.

I still have the third episode to catch up on. I believe there are plans for another 4 episodes late this year or early next year.

Well that was a bit powerful dark and heavy for a Tuesday. Some good acting and directing there. Nicely set up for another series!
