Glad someone else has said it like it is rather than gushing over Shane Meadows.

First of all, I'd say about half of the time through the four episodes was spent watching everything in slow-fking-motion.

Secondly, I have no idea of the timeframe this was all supposed to have occured over. Was it a few days? a week or two? What? So little happened for the first three episodes I was practically bored to tears, it wasn't until the last 20 minutes it actually started to get interesting and then they just rushed everything through as quickly as possible.

What happened with Milky after the film?

What happened to Combo after the film?

Did Woody and Lol get married?

etc, etc, etc

Hmm, dunno. I mean, it's entirely reasonable to shoot them down for leaving some unresolved plot lines isn't it? It isn't as if anyone in the movie or television industry has ever dared leave stuff unresolved in the past, is it? It isn't as if they'd dare to LEAVE THEMSELVES THE OPTION OF A SEQUEL now is it?

Tsk.

So you're saying we might actually get some answers to the original film in the sequel to the sequel? What if it's just another 3hrs 40mins of not a lot followed by 20mins of something interesting before wrapping everything up in 2mins again? Wait, I get it, perhaps they'll resolve everything in the sequel to the sequel of the sequel? Or perhaps not?

Let's face it, Milky was assumed dead at the end of the film, to completely ignore what happened after is just pisspoor film making.

He wasn't assumed dead in my mind, and the fact that he was walking and talking in the sequel with a big fat scar on the side of his noggin sort of wrapped up that particular plot avenue. For me at least.

Personally I like not having everything explained to me immediately and enjoy a story revealing itself in a non-linear way. I cannot see how you can say nothing happened throughout the series aside from the twenty minutes of dark stuff?

Exactly. Not everything needs to be explained - this was a 'snap shot' - a bit rough around the edges.. just like the whole setting, just like the actors.

Thats partly what made it so good! its not a soap or a sitcom.

Exactly. Storylines that follow the A-B-C method and have linear narrative with beginning middle and and end can be enjoyable. I also enjoy more realistic stories with less narrativium that might end, go on, not get explained. I felt that, that was one of the great strengths of The Sopranos. Life goes on, stuff doesn't get resolved.

The timeframe of 86 in my mind, was the summer period the world cup matches that England played in...

I meant how much time was supposed to have passed from the start of episode one up to the end of episode four. It seems like it was dragged out for four episodes then everything was quickly wrapped up in the final two minutes. It got to about 10:45 last night, I think Combo was still messing around with his dead mother and I thought "15mins to go... how are they going to resolve all this?... surely not rush it? no? oh... wait.. yes.. they are..."

Why don't you email Shane Meadows, He'll tell you.

All I thought was that the accompanying DVD is hardly a festive stocking filler.....
Unless the Fritzels are coming over for mince pies and a nip of brandy.

Aside from Ashes to Ashes, this was the best telly this year. Absolutely terrific mini-series which suggests that there will be another shortly. Great acting from all of the cast but Dad & Lol having their argument towards the end was nailbiting waiting for the finale.

Agreed. The argument was so tense I could barely watch it. Best telly of the year for me.

I thought Flip was great - reminded me a little of Johnny White from Skins (same co-writer).

Has anybody heard 'Gingers can drop beats too' by Midnightsnake? (some bad language):

Christ.

Just watched the last two episodes. One of the darkest thing I have ever watched.

Saw the film when I was pregnant last year and on fentanyl so my memory of it is well confused.

Last 2 episodes had me paused, staring at the credits at the end....

Start of the last episode I felt real hatred for Lol's dad (tv character doesn't usually have much of an effect) but then I realised....what a great actor he is!!! My god, wanted to punch the TV when he was on it

Have go to say, even though it was very dark - some superb acting there. Best british TV I've seen in a long time.

Indeed. Can you imagine the bloke reading the script and the director telling him what he wanted to do? 'Right, so after screaming in her face and strangling her, I've got to stick me hand inside her bra and then drop me kecks? No worries, do you want me to slap her about a bit too? Heyup love, seen what we're doing tomorrow?'

Must have been so difficult for everyone concerned to have been involved in those two scenes.
