Too many rules.
Should have been held in a big concrete pit....
No holds/weapons barred.

You wernt allowed projectile weapons, flame based weapons, foam based, electrical or anything that might have been innovative.

Hypnodisc was my faveourite, Chaos 2 was good aswel but the lad controlling it looked a bit weird.
Id like to see one in real life as you dont really get a sense of scale on telly, Killalot looks massive!

Quite liked it but I wouldn't want to be in a locked room with any of the contestants, what a weird bunch.

I recall a rather creepy Scottish teacher who always turned up with 2 young school girls in St. Trinians type clothes and Ray Bans.

A great programme. The BBC dumped it in favour of an awful CGI based game show called "Fightbox." Robot Wars went to Channel 5, but didn't last.

Favourite robot -RAZER.

Ah I forgot about that Fightbox they did, I remember downloading the software for my PC and trying it out - turned out to be utterly crap.

Typhoon 2 was my favourite, the one that (when spinning at full speed) could - and did - take the side wall out of the arena.

Agreed - but that's part of the appeal of watching it as well.

"When geeks get air-time" Scary stuff as they all high five each other and say woo. Shudder.

Surely Cassius was the greatest and not just the name. As from it's appearance every other robot had to be redesigned to cope with being flipped over.
that and the fact the driver/builder was a really nice guy by the looks of it! It was his comment about the rear spike been designed so he could fire himself back out of the pit that tickled me smile

I used to like this show, but catching a repeat on TV the other day it just looked embarrassing.

I was on robot wars when I was 15 biggrin I would have thought there would be more 'robotteers' on PH tbh. It's what edged me into my career as an electronic engineer. I think it fuelled a few people of my age to go into engineering, so it must be applauded for that reason alone (that and scrapheap challenge). I used to keep it quiet in fear of the geek label (yes I know what's going to happen on here now...) but everyone who I tell these days seems to admit to watching it hehe

Robot Wars Extreme encouraged the drivers to be a bit more showy for the camera and of course the average engineer is not designed to be an actor on the TV so it got cringe worthy nearer the end. Channel 5 killed it off though, I couldn't even access Channel 5 at the time so never watched the final series.

beat me to it. (Great series by the way - NEED MORE!). What happened to him after that? All the websites etc seem to have vanished.

Last bit about him (as posted above).
http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/Team_Cassius

Great shame and a huge missed blunder by BBC. Still, I suppose this is what happens to all sports (if I can call it that) when it becomes professional and the 'dad and son in the shed' fails to compete with technical stuff and costs.

Still want some old electric wheelchairs to make one smile
