If they knew it was V festival weekend why couldn't the planners route him around it?

It's not a car.

Cost of sitting in traffic v. cost of re-route including avoiding low briges/weight restrictions etc etc.

I did think it implied lack of planning on their part - should at least have expected the holdup and allowed more time for journey.

re the V festival re-route, my f-i-l once sent for an AA route from Rotherham to Southampton docks and mentioned that as it was British F1 GP weekend it might be a good idea to avoid routing it past Silverstone which in those days was the natural route to get to A34.

Muppet AA sent a route which went to within a mile, if that, of the circuit, looped round a couple of back roads and then rejoined the main road the other side of the entrance.

Even the Mrs commented today about the "is everything a life threatening drama" on the show, and she'd been watching it for about ten minutes and first time.

The observational documentary about the iconic Eddie Stobart trucking company returns for a seasonal special.
The festive season is the firm's busiest time of year - and the weather is not always on its side.
As blizzards hit the UK, the trucks need to keep rolling to get Christmas trees to garden centres, turkeys onto dinner tables and sacks of presents under the trees.
Another hour of cliffhanging excitement.....will Joe make the train connection.....will Billy get his eggs there in one piece......Oh no it's snowing!

Good point. There was no need for him to get arsey when he got himself in the mess. Perhaps he was embarrassed!

Very much so. If he was one of my drivers and did that I'd politely remind him he's representing his employer on national television.

It was a one-off special last night "Trucks, Trailers and Tinsel". I only knew about it yesterday having read about it in the industry press. No doubt it will be repeated very soon.

funny thing is if he had just played it cool and accepted he had got himself stuck and sorted it then he would have come accross much better. easy to come accross as a great person when things arwe going well. iv no doubt he felt presure because the camera's were there but he could have come out of that situation looking much better had he thought through the situation and just dealt with it as a "theses things happen" approach

If I were to offer defense to him; I'd say that having gone miles out of his way by accident, and then not able to find a suitable turning point either he would already have been wound up and getting stuck was the straw that broke the camels back.

I caught this halfway through and saw the bit where he got stuck. Made me laugh that the crew finally had something (mildly) interesting to film and he told them to turn the cameras off.
