remember these:

It's hard to imagine now just how high a TV programme was in the national consciousness; in the early 80's it seems everyone watched TV on a Saturday morning, and the fake scarves were big sellers on market stalls.

I remember watching avidly waiting for something that I could swap - I wanted to phone in and offer something to swap just to see what I could get ... something like swapping my Top Trumps "Worlds Fastest Cars" deck for the largest Scalextric set - I just couldn't see why that wouldn't be appealing.

I was reminded of it by my 8 year old daughter, apparently there is a new Saturday programme called somebody or others swap shop.

What I was wondering, though, was why in the almost 30 years since the program was on air, have I never met anyone who either swapped something themselves, or knows a swapper? They say there ae 5 degrees of separation in the world, surely something as momentous as being a TV swapper would come up in conversation at some point? Or has my memory been sold, and in fact the whole "Swap Shop" element of the show was just some researcher behind the scenes pretending to have toys and games they no longer wanted?

I saw something about the remake a while ago.
Don't think it had Posh Paws on it.

Usually because most swaps were silly.

Example of the usual type of offered swap said:
Dear Noel

I would like to swap an action man for an Atari 2600 VCS.

Good point.

It's the same with Jim'll Fix It. I've never met anyone who's been on, not even a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend.

yes

I mean, who was most likely to instigate pre-pubescent wood hmmm? Maggie Philbin or Sally James? It's a rhetorical question.

I was in the studio audience for that... me and the Mrs went, on condition that she was not going to be on telly... she was gutted when Cheggers interviewed the girl across the aisle from her..

Although my parents never said *as such* I always got the impression that they approved of Swap Shop and not of Tiswas. I used to flick across to Tiswas and feel guilty for it.

What a wuss I was. hehe

Not forgetting Keith Chegwin punch and that irritating laugh.
I think they also had a top ten(?) with

1) space hopper for a jigsaw puzzle.

Did anyone actually use this service?
