Is it as disappointing as the finale of the Sopranos?

The end of True Detective could have been better, but I never even managed to watch beyond the middle of the last series of The Sopranos, I felt it had become so poor.

I felt True Detective did what it needed to do at the end. It wasn't fab, but I was very happy with it.

As for Sopranos, not sure what else they could have done.

Your spoiler, if enacted, would have been in context with the rest of the series. So that would have been ok with me. I could see why others wouldn't have wanted that, though.

We all knew what was about to happen, we didn't need to see it IMHO

Like I said, I can see why others wouldn't have wanted that. But speaking of what we didn't need to see, that could be said of a great deal of the whole series. I'm not suggesting anyone else should agree, just giving my reasons for my opinion on the matter.

Fair comment.

I'm ashamed to say I have only just started watching. I'm on episode 5 of series 1 at the moment.

I'm jealous. I wish I hadn't already watched it (more than once). You've got some great stuff to look forward to.

I've laboured through this. Not really getting the hype at the moment.

Just started Series 3 and not really got a reason to go further.

Tell me it gets better?

If it wasn't good for you by the end of episode 1, then maybe it's not going to get any better.

It happens. We only managed the first few episodes of 24 and The Wire, despite having bought the boxed sets.

Yep, needs more car chases and explosions. Maybe a couple of giant robots fighting?

hehe

Whilst many programmes can be improved by Michael Bay that wasnt really what I meant.

I guess the serious issue I had was the pacing. Sometimes it rockets along, other times nothing happens. If you want to see a perfectly paced show go watch True Detective or even Game of Thrones. It just felt that many bits of Breaking Bad were paced badly. I think it should have been 4 seasons at most cutting each season down as well.

True Detective was paced well. Easy when you only have two characters and a simple story to tell.

Though 99% of the time - directors and producers fail. Go figure.

Yes that seems to be the case.
I've been getting up to speed with Game of Thrones these last couple of weeks and have to say I nearly gave up by the end of series 3 - couldn't see what the fuss was about at all - but series 4 is gripping. Far more urgency in the script and the whole thing flows better. The Wire ebbed and flowed, as did BB, IIRC. The Shield was pretty consistent though.
