answer - the female characters. eg ruth, shula, pat, susan, elizabeth etc they're such a bunch of pious, self righteous feminist horrors. The only exceptions are jill (she's a bit like your your mum) and lillian (bonkers, but she likes a drink and enjoys anything else politically incorrect)
I was thinking of running a poll on which female Archers character's face you like to slap. At the moment I can't decide between Helen and Pat- both totally barking feminists.rolleyes Ruth's OK and I agree Lilians the best, with the dirtiest laugh on the radio. Susan and Jennifer (Peggy told Jennifer that to her face but its made no difference) are the biggest snobs around and why no ones punched Linda Snell I'll never understand. Schula has always been sanctimonious even when she was shagging Dr Lock behind Ushas back.

And whats the odds on a cat fight between Kate & Hailey?

I think the lady who plays Usha has a really sexy voice. I've deliberately never looked at her profile to see a picture just in case I'm disappointed.

I've recognised her voice in plays on the TV, she's got a young voice. You could try googling Brenda Tucker- the actress playing her was in a play on Radio 4 last Saturday. She's nothing like I expected.
Felicity Finch (Ruth) is often on Radio 4 working as a reporter- she really lays the Geordie accent on for Rooth

Oh god, i'd overlooked Helen- completely barking. Elizabeth used to be ok till she had kids and had her sense of humour removed. Debbie i can't really judge objectively because she's too prominent an actress elsewhere and she's hot. I'm guessing brian and roy will be buying kate a return ticket soon!

Gonna spoil it for ya now.
Next time you listen to it, notice how whenever one character speaks to another they always use their name.
"Hello Bill"
"Oh Hello John"
"Would you like a pint Bill"
"Yes please John"
"Bert, a pint for me and Bill please"

Etc etc.

Now think about the last time you had a conversation with someone and notice thats something you never ever do.

It's radio. Is any more explanation needed? They don't do it all the time though. I remember when I started listening and not knowing who anyone was, the first time was while working on the car on a Sunday morning for the omnibus - there was a conversation between one woman who was furious in a "how could you?" way rather than a shouty way with another woman who had just had an abortion, then another between the second woman and a man who was obviously completely besotted with her, even though it was never mentioned. No names at all. By the end of the of the hour I had worked out the names, but not the relationships between them. Listened for about 10 years, got bored when they introduced a story about Julia hiding the key to the wine cellar and the Lynda Snell quotient seemed to increase beyond the "amusing distraction" level to "getting annoying now", so decided it was getting silly and stopped.

Yes, it's radio, so explanation is needed as to who is yakking.

Also, if you listen to the children speaking, they never really have an interactive dialogue with an adult - it's obviously recorded in stand alone fashion, and then spliced into the recording.

I suppose the reason I listen to it - apart from the stuff that never seemed to happen in our village - like homosexual marriages, brother shagging other brother's wife, Vicar marrying a Hindu etc etc etc - is that it reminds me of an England, and the characters seem to have values, that that died in the early fifties, but which I do remember. All the blokes either play in the village cricket team or turn up to spectate - no one seems to have heard of football - and the centre of village life is the pub. I don't know many villages that are like that now.

OK I give in, the reason I wish I like the Archers is: my cd player in the kitchen has packed up and I'm listening to the radio. Up till 7:00 is Ok with news and comedy on Radio 4, but then along comes the Archers! So it's Radio 5 which I normally like, but on many occasions it's football I don't want to listen to, so I'm either going to have to buy a new CD player or go modern and buy an mp3/i pod and dock.

pretty sure the actress changed a few years back, well before this marrying the vicar nonsence, and yes the previous Usha sounded dead hot....the new one is a bit cooler by comparison. But then she is a Lawyer and they are never hot.

why did they have to do that; its like killing off nelson all over again - why couldn't they kill off one (or more) of the irritating characters, there's a long list after all

bit of an anticlimax IMO. is he dead or just paralised for life or something? as soon as they mentioned "lets go up on the roof to remove that banner" you just knew what was going to happen.
and as for "Henry" now come on!
Was at least expecting an out of control tractor taking its toll.

I was hoping for an out of control tractor careering into Pat Archers kitchen when she, Helen & Cathy were having a feminist whinge session
