Jeremy Vine BBC2 today... was talking about how urine historically was being used in the processing of many materials and questioning if it was time to bring it back.

Apparently people used to put it in buckets outside their house for collection, being payed for it even - lol.

The radio discussion suggested people around now would remember this?

Any Ph people that remember taking the piss ?

...It speeds the cooling of metal heated to make it workable. Unlike water, where a film of steam is formed so that the liquid water doesn't actually contact the metal, with urine crystals are formed which bridge the gap and speed cooling.

^ cool (snigger)

Tweed and similar materials did / do use it. Sure there's a valid reason, which ties in nicely with the fact they smell like old people when it rains.

Pretty sure it was used in cotton making for a long time.

I imagine there are industrial alternatives more easily available these days.

Wazzing on your compost heap does it the world of good. Most shrubby plants benefit from a thorough dousing of piss too.

As long as we have the likes of Prescott, Blair, Brown, Miliband and Harman, to name but a minuscule collection, piss will always be taken with gusto...

Is piss worth the same if it has been boiled?

I read several times that Rolls Royce also used to leave their engine blocks out in the yard and encourage the workforce to piss on them, something to do with relieving stresses.

Piss, well urea specifically, had been used for a while as an engine additive to lower emissions. Adblue.

Just starting to be used in cars (Mercedes).
