I've always heard very good reports about this series but had never watched an episode until last night (50 Dhips - ITV 3).

I was VERY impressed - and Honeysuckle Weeks is very easy on the eye too. Any girl who can look good in a WW2 uniform gets my vote

Would it be worthwhile in splashing out on the complete boxed set of DVDs?

I liked it. I'm not usually a fan of these gentle period dramas but F's W always held my interest.

There was even an episode with Danny Dyer in it where he wasn't awful.

Yes. I think I've seen every episode as it was originally broadcast. The production quality, story lines and acting are brilliant.

Foyle's War, yes, good choice. A complete antidote to modern day lack of manners.

Honeysuckle Weeks, a quote from an interview she gave to the Daily Soovy
Honeysuckle Weeks said:
'Sam's very jolly hockeysticks,' she acknowledges, 'though I always wished she could have been a bit sexier. I never felt anyone would have been terribly interested in her getting her kit off.'

Oh dear, almost as wrong as Chamberlain when he waved that piece of paper after meeting Hitler.

Excellent programme. Agree about Honeysuckle Weeks and Michael Kitchen is a superb actor.

There must be something in the water....I accidentally stumbled upon the same program last night, and ended up watching it through.
Had a more authentic look and feel than other period stuff (Poirot etc) and more engagaing than all that State-side CSI crap.

I've got the complete box set and thoroughly recommend it - definitely one of Michael Kitchen's finest performances

I did like the bit where the American statesman's PA was laying it on Foyle, virtually threatening him to back off...something along the lines of "So please don't harass Mr Paige any further" to which Foyle replied....
"You mean like your harassing me now? I'll do my best"
Class.

Foyle's War has been all the better for the producers having not rushed out a series of 13 plot-alikes, and for taking their time between series. It is programmes like this that make me annoyed at ITV. It proves that they really can still make damn good original series like this when they try. Let us hope that their improved cash flow leads to less trash, and more quality like Foyle's War that has shelf life, and can be sold all over the world.

29 in the photo, 31 now. And if she did the cut glass accent at me, I would probably explode in pleasure.

The guy who plays Foyle is brilliant, he completely underplays the whole thing and can achieve so much by a single expression or gesture. Other over-actors should take note.

Michael Kitchen, yes superb. As capable of being the benign gentleman as the cold hearted villain. I seem to vaguely remember him as an English landowner in pre-1920 Ireland evicting people from their tenancies with a callousness that made my blood run cold. Excellent and under rated actor IMHO.

Not a chance, Midsomer is fantasy. Foyle's War smacks of the real world of the 1940s.

Get out - I've always fancied girls in uniforms.
