I'm reading that there are 5 episodes this year:

Wiki says otherwise and even IMDB doesn't know. How odd.

I watched it out of interest and thought it was a real lost opportunity. The original was and is so memorable because of the fantastic music, the sense of drama and the realism of some of the high tech equipment. The rescues were often portrayed as really difficult to achieve which added to the tension, and of course it too was aimed at a young audience. The fact that grown ups watched as well was a happy accident, but really showed the quality of the series. What I saw on Saturday was really very little to do with Thunderbirds. The character's names were the same, the machines looked similar and the launch sequences were similar also but everything else was out of kilter. These guys could save the world during the commercial break without even getting out of breath. Previous posters have commented on the fact that this is a children's show - and they are right. However the makers have chosen to remake a show that has a very high position in popular culture and with it comes expectations that are always going to be linked to the original series. If you are going to call your series Thunderbirds then it had better be extraordinary (like the original series) or you are going to face well deserved criticism. It has been 50 years since the original was first shown and kids will still watch it and be thrilled. We as adults can still watch it and enjoy it. Will the children of today be interested in the show in 50 years time? I doubt it.
Sorry for the rant. I've put my soap box away now!
This review is so perfect I thought it deserved a repost. Missed opportunity seems to be the buzzword, hope the producers read the (easily rectified) criticisms before embarking on series 1 and a 1/2 or whatever it is in 6 monthsSorry for the rant. I've put my soap box away now!

The original orchestral arrangements made Thunderbirds what it was, it made the drama.
In case anyone is unsure how it's supposed to be done...

As a fifty-something year old with all the DVDs of the original series I was ready to hate it.
I agree with the comments about the pacing of the show, and the speeded up countdown - but isn't that what kids want these days? We live in the world of fast forwarding through programs....
I wasn't too impressed until I watched the "Reggie" documentary and realised how they'd gone about making it.
It's not just CGI, it's CGI characters and craft over a model background. Not immediately apparent until you look closely.
The lip sync wrong? - no, it's not wrong, it's just like the original series was!
There was a massive Thunderbirds revival in the 90's - remember Blue Peter and Tracy Island? - and most of the people making it are from that generation.
The loooonnnnngggg lauch sequences that ovaltine posted were actually from the feature film when they had the time to play with, the originals were much shorter and cut dramatically after the first episode.
Overall, IMHO it's not a slavish rehash of the original series - if you want that take a look at "Star Trek Continues" - it's a 21st Century reimagining and I think it's good. Not perfect, but good, and (I suspect) better than 90% of the kid's TV being produced at present.
ETA "International Rescue, this is Doctor Meddings" - they had to put that one in!
