Got the Blu-ray (along with This is Supermarionation collection of episodes from the different shows) from Santa, spent most of boxing day watching it, wonderful way to spend the day.

I still have this Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet record and remember it being bought around 1971 in a shop in Stratford for me.

Can't remember the Thunderbirds story as I found them boring, but the Captain Scarlet one has him being blown up on an atomic passenger plane. cool
ON ONE RECORD!!????!?!?!! eekeekeek

isn't that the one with the fireflash passenger plane having it's undercarriage damaged by a bomb, and the hood who planted the bomb tries to use it as an opportunity to take pictures of thunderbird 1, i know the story was also filmed, they used remote control cars to land the plane on.

ididn't even look it up, i'll look right sad if it's correct smile

That's not how I remember it.
The bomb was set to explode when the plane lowered the landing gear. The Hood set the bomb because knew International Rescue would be there to save the day, and that's when he'd take his pictures.
And the plane landed on the 3 cars all being driven by one man.
The episode even has a bomb disposal expert doing an air-to-air transfer.
Utterly brilliant.

I think the air-to-air transfer was the "Thunderbirds Are Go!" movie - I don't remember any such event in the Fireflash episode (googles - OK, you're right, I'm wrong!). That episode was the first Thunderbirds ever shown on television; it must have been pretty mind-blowing - almost 50 years ago! eek Still stands up well today.

Gerry Anderson had difficulty coming to terms with the fact that he was making puppet shows for children's television, but the stuff he and his team pulled off really was top class.

I remember reading an article about Gerry when he was approached by Lord Grade (I think?) who said that unfortunately puppet just could cut it anymore, and he would have to start making live action tv, which he did with Space 1999, and he was absolutely delighted because that was what he wanted all along.

True. 'Space 1999' was a live-action cartoon by comparison, especially the second series.

I had a little catch up on Space 1999 a while back (they're all on youtube iirc). Still as entertaining as ever. And I recall seeing a lot, if not all of UFO on youtube as well. I like the idea of something a little darker.
