I'm finding this series a bit slow. But then, I can't work out if the prison escape by Chalky White is a flashback or present day.
I am sure it's present day, judging by the greying of his beard.

Wow, that was a brilliant episode.
SO much going on, the Alden thing...five years in the making, brilliant!
Have to say, I like Graham as Capone. He has really grown into it, I wonder if it is his plan to show how Capone is getting crazier with the power.
And Mrs Schroeder! FFS at last, she is watchable!!!
Poor Arquette...

Also...Al is mates with Nucky...ace. biggrin

Shame this is the final season of a very good series; not as great as the Wire and the Sopranos (what is!?!) but at the very least on par with Mad Men, the Shield and the likes. The story has so much depth and great acting by the cast.

I'm enjoying the current storylines and the flashbacks (Mueller, Capone, Mrs Schroeder, young Nucky etc).

I haven't rewatched any of the previous episodes but I seem to recall when Al and Nucky last met they left on good terms.

Yeah, Al helped Nucky destroy Gyp. Which is business. Since then he took in Eli, but that is still business. What mildly surprised me was that when Lucky reached out, Al turned him down and went to an 'Irishman'.
Maybe it has to do with the line, 'I don't see any Italians.'

For me, Boardwalk Empire sits in my Top Ten US serial dramas alongside The Wire and The Sopranos very comfortably. biggrin

When Boardwalk Empire is good it's very good and up there with the best for me-excellent cast and atmospheric ambiance created by outstanding sets, costumes and props. But when it's not it's slow and at times boring IMO-Bland scripts, lack of action/intrigue in long stints.

How accurate all of it is I' not sure I wasn't alive then and don't know anyone who was/live in the states through prohibition. I think the writers have walked and crossed the line a lot when it comes to using real historical figures with some 'based' on characters such as the lead.

This may seem controversial but I've never thought Steve Buscemi was quite right for this role. Don't get me wrong he's a superb actor and I'm a big fan but I've never really bought him as a menacing crime boss, like Tony Soprano. He's just a bit too funny looking...... I don't get his motivation either too much and a little one dimensional at times i.e. more money and power please, had a bit of a st upbringing which has now been touched on. Tony Soprano loved his family and had depth.

Kelly MacDonald's Margaret Shroeder has been cooked up as a 'strong' female character to appeal to a female audience and has generally annoyed me throughout.

I think Al Capone has been very well played by Stephen Graham. The pacing has been good this season (minus the first episode). I think looking back other than a few select episodes potentially it's not something that I'll watch from start to finish every now and again.

smile Thank you!

However, it is you that is the 'tool', isn't it?

Why post about Ep 6 when it isn't shown until next weekend, is it because you wanted us all to know you've watched it before us?

No, it's not. If he'd spoiled something - then yes. But he didn't. A sense of perspective here please.

Having seen the episode in question he does spoil it. Once you see it you'll now pretty much know how it will end.

With regard to the above comments - the guy playing "young Nucky" is brilliant. He's obviously studied Buscemi well and has the gestures, facial expressions, general mannerisms and speech patterns down pat. He's called Marc Pickering and he's actually from Hull which makes it all the more impressive!

The young Nucky, quite a find, very good impression of older Nucky.
