are the episodes disjointed? They had the cups he made in the first episode...but where was the bell? Or had someone nicked it?
I suspect that seeing as they 'just found it' it went back to its owner. Whilst I'm really enjoying the series I can't help but think that it wouldn't hurt to get rid of some of the mucking about. The section where they prepared the beans, what was the need to make them inedible by adding all of the salt and then not actually cooking the beans. The ending would have been just as good (perhaps better) if they were able to enjoy the beans on toast.
Certain features on Top Gear annoy me for exactly the same reason. Like when they assembled the Caterham, why not just do it properly.
Maybe it's more a reflection of my personality than what makes for good viewing however.

I agree, I watched last nights show with my Dad and we both thought that the cocking about could be toned down.Certain features on Top Gear annoy me for exactly the same reason. Like when they assembled the Caterham, why not just do it properly.

Guy can actually do some things! He did well making the cutlery (and the fork and spoon!) as opposed to his attempts at cup making, so I'd like to see him making more and doing more hands on stuff in different factories.
I'm enjoying the show but feel as though I'm forcing myself to, the beans section was always going to be crap. Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall tried to make his own baked beans and that wasn't very successful, so I didn't hold out much hope for Guy's version.
I don't know, if he made a serious attempt at kitting the boat out then I think it would be more compelling!

Thing is though that's already been done, and done very well in my opinion.Maybe you misunderstand, in the casting episode he could have then visited a proper foundry and cast his own stove (or helped clean the mould!) and other boating accesories, instead we are treated to a poor attempt at making some cups, a poor attempt at blending some tea and a poor attempt at making a brew.
What I would like to have seen is the stove installed, a few other bits and the boat getting a little more liveable, a bit like the bed episode which I thought was rather good!

That's a maybe, but I have no interests in narrowboats, or didn't think I did! Still not enough to buy a DVD!

Yes I did misunderstand, sorry. The Alan Herd thing is on one of the diy channels, Discovery Shed or something like that, the DVD link was the only one I could find. Give him his due he's a damn fine joiner.Maybe you misunderstand, in the casting episode he could have then visited a proper foundry and cast his own stove (or helped clean the mould!) and other boating accesories, instead we are treated to a poor attempt at making some cups, a poor attempt at blending some tea and a poor attempt at making a brew.

Do agree that the cocking about on this Guy series is a bit irritating, but then we'll be accused of wanting detailed filming of head gasket changes on Top Gear next.
Have been following this and recording the series. I caught a bit of this when my kids were watching earlier... Where the fk has that bloody great bell gone? My eldest said it was missing, I suggested a continuity type error thing, as in they filmed tonight's episode before the other one, but as he pointed out the boat wasn't painted up in the bell episode. It's made me feel a bit, empty.
