The Boat That Guy Built
Discussion
I enjoyed that! Guy seems to receive a fair bit of bad press in the motorcycling fraternity for his other interests distracting him from his racing. They didnt mention much about his career but I liked the easy going nature of it. Twinned with some decent summer sun, its a good bit of evening entertainment.
I'll have a cuppa of whatever he's having, it must be in the water!

I get the feeling (or maybe it's just me hoping this) that the BBC are looking for a replacement Fred Dibnah.
I was thinking (and also hoping)exactly that.Really enjoyed the programme.
That barge must be fitted with a flux capacitor though, the speed it got from Worsley to the Anderton boat lift then to Dudley
And just nips back and forth between premises on a narrowboat.
I'm not saying that Lisa Tarbuck hasn't got a nice voice, it's lovelly.
But if i remember correctly Fred Dibnah did the voiceover and also used to talk to the camera to explain the build process or how it works. It was great because you had fred's great accent explaing things with all of his natural enthusiasm and engineering knowledge etc.
I just feel that the programme would be solid gold if it was narrated with Guy's accent and enthusiasm.

I agree with you. Liza just speaks like we're all idiots. We're not idiots and idiots wouldn't be watching this show because they can't text in and vote on which tea he should chose. But if i remember correctly Fred Dibnah did the voiceover and also used to talk to the camera to explain the build process or how it works. shame it wasn't on for an hour
This.I'll definitely watch the next one, whereas, for me, many 1-hour programmes are quite good, but don't warrant a whole hour of my life so don't get watched again.

I think the reason being, that guy does everything(allegedly) at a zillion miles an hour, and so the average viewer wouldnt be able to a) understand him b) follow what he was saying and would c) lose interest. This way, it allows the bbc to publish a book to accompany the series when it's released on dvd, which will have more detailed plot analysis. I forgot the name of the actual model (but would bet the house on it starting with a 'v') but it was the one with the AMV8 body and the DBS Engine. monthefish said:

This will be epic, and i have already programmed the sky+ to record the series
Can I ask how you have done this? The only way I now is opening up the planner then pressing +24 till I get to the day I want I tried again last night but listings only went till next tuesday.
What am I doing wrong?
When I put it in, the system asks if I want to 'Record once' or 'Record series'. Does yours not do this?
It's sky+, right?
I just scrolled in the schedule to the date of the first show in advance of the show actually starting important that, set it to record with the record button, then set series link with the green button, it goes away finds the series links and puts the green link icon on the RHS of the planner page.
Isn't everyone's sky+ like that? OK maybe HD planner is different admittedly, I don't have that.
Not watched it yet, but I bet when I do, the Mrs will be on about a narrow boat again.
I have JD sky plus, and it's relatively simple to record the whole series. You can either take the approach F i F has above, or when you click on record the first time, it asks you if you want to record once, or the series. I just clicked on series and every wednesday, it will record this. If you clikc record once, then you have to manually record it every week, hence why with something like this i do whole series. It also works for reminders by the way
