How on earth does Emelia Clarke manage to make Game of Thrones and be the lead in the new Terminator film during the same time period?... It must be a busy old life.

The Unsullied - been thinking about this, if they are castrated at a young age, how do they develop a mature muscular male physique and why do they not have high pitched voices?
Why are you asking a question like that, it's a fantasy show wIth dragons, magic and whitewalkers. Not sure a little bit of dodgy endocrinology is a major concern.

Am I the only one who thinks that GoT has gone past its best by date?

Me and the mrs had this discussion last night - for me at least, the first ep didn't live up to the hype - I know it is going to pick up again, but I have this horrid nagging feeling that it will go the way of other uber successful US shows/movies that just drag it out to make more money. Maybe that is just me being negative though - the weather is crap and I haven't finished my morning coffee yet.

Saying that, a average episode of GoT is better than 99% of the other crap on TV, so will keep watching it religiously smile

Yes can't argue with that. I still enjoy it but not to the extent I used to.

I don't think many dare stop watching now.

Makes for interesting chats though. Plus George likes to base a lot of stuff on stuff he has researched. Yes I know obviously dragons and white walkers are not about, but GRR is a historian and a huge lot of the ideas in the story are 'lifted' or inspired by stuff that has gone on in Earth's history.

I think most critiques have been universal in that, the first ep was decent, but it's obviously not a 7th/8th ep level of drama, it has to be a catch-up on...guessing here....10 different storylines? I think the sense of deflation comes from what people build up the event of the first episode to be.
You won't believe how much stuff has been cut! The show producers are keen to get through seven series of the material, so it's the opposite of dragging it out, they are reducing at a rather large rate.

I think it was "slow" only by the show's standards.

It reintroduced most of the main characters, set up some of the themes for the season to come, and killed off a significant character.

Compared to some of the slow episodes on the walking dead it was positively racing along.

On another matter you must be watching a different show IMO if you think they are padding it out. There is still an immense amount of story to get through in only a few seasons.

Yes. It's a bit like F1 you watch it thinking something exciting might happen although in GoT's case something probably will.

Don't say that... because that was the case for a lot of people with Lost.
And we all know how that went...

Lost wasn't an adaptation. GRR has got volumes of stuff. Even if sloppy translated, it'll still be good. biggrin

Exactly, there might be questions about where Martin is going to go with the books, but the TV series is nowhere near that yet.

Disagree

Being very wary of giving away anymore spoilers, we have already diverted from the books in the storyline for this season - you see the last book only followed some of the characters, we are waiting for the next book to discover the further adventures of the other characters. It has already been announced that this series will cover some of those adventures.

Also, GRRM has told the producers how the book will end, and they have said they want 7 seasons.

And we get to see nothing of Bran, Meera and Hodor in S5 because it's already up to and past the book as well isn't it?

Not a spoiler as they have all given interviews saying this.

Interviewer - "Kristian, is it true that you won't be in series 5?"
Kristian Nairn - "Hodor"

That definitely IS a spoiler. I haven't read the books or watched any interviews, just watched the TV series and now I know something about the content of series five which I didn't before reading your post.

Thanks for nothing. I'm out of this thread if people are are going to post stuff like this.

Don't be ridiculous. It says nothing about what happens to them. The show runners have spoken at length about this.

What I mean is, there is lots of story already laid down and still to be told, and as you say, an ending already defined.

It's not like Lost, where there was a distinct impression of making it up as they went along.
