My fear that their going to slow down the series and finish it with a cliffhanger involving Stannis at Winterfell, John in the North and Dani still not having moved from Mereen is growing. If that happens I'll stop watching it. I've heard the books are very much "its coming but not just yet" and I won't tolerate that.
Same here. The Walking Dead has done that over and over, and what a steaming pile of turd that has turned into.

Nice. Jesus may have built his car but he certainly didn't teach him what no spoilers means!

don't forget though that the series and the books are meant to deviate significantly during this season so 'spoilers' from the book aren't necessarily that...

as for boring? I must be watching something different as IMO it's boiling up nicely with loads going on

I think part of the problem is that GoT has raised the bar so high in terms of TV quality, any slight fluctuation shows up (like the latest fighting scenes, for example).

Another problem is that a lot of people now 'binge' on box sets - waiting another whole week, and if it's the last in the series, another year, after a cliff-hanger ending can be unbearable! hehe

Yeah, I think last year was a superb year, and this year we have maybe a few more plotlines to squeeze in?
I've just watched Justified S5 and it was ace, halfway through S6, being able to binge watch stuff is so ace...but then what??! biggrin

Question for the readers there. I did wonder if it was a spoilt rich girls who have never had a real fight thinking they are better than they are or if it was just the TV. They can do convincing female fighters, Brienne vs the Hound (or anyone) looks convincing but she is a lot bigger than these girls.
Another parallel was with the slavers, saying Ser Friendzone could joust/fight as a gentleman but not in the fighting pits totally different style. Real world fighting is dirtier than in a tournament.
Erm, in the books at least the eldest is a proper fighters...but not too bright and their plot in the books fks up too, they're a bit hotheaded and not that difficult to anticipate. I did love how small they are, it was like minibots attacking. The Friendzone juxtaposition was good yeah. biggrin

The whole scene played out like 3 kids who were acting up and were caught by their parents.
I think that may be what was wanted?

Yeah stuff has seriously changed now, plots are diverging. And I agree, I think loads has happened.
The issues I have is with Olenna not having Tyrell guards in the inquiry. The Sand Snakes are useless...maybe that's the point.

I didn't!

Don't get me wrong, every season has been good and at a higher level of quality than almost every other TV show going, but even though each new season seems awesome as its airing weekly, upon re-watching (I re-watch the entire lot before and after each new season airs, I have no life lol) I'd say that on the whole every season it gets less and less amazing.

Season 1 is fantastic, the narrative is almost entirely dialogue driven and is paced really well - yes it is pretty slow, every season since feels like its tried to hurry each plot line along to appeal to a wider audience whom don't have the patience for a slow narrative - which ultimately seems to have backfired now that a lot of characters stories have slowed right down, like Dani. Things like the Battle of Blackwater Bay and Battle at Castle Black are truly incredible for a TV show, even for a movie but to me, those other seasons don't seem to capture me quite like the first did, dropping you into a world deep in its own history and lore...

I'm listening to the audiobook for book 1 at the moment, I'm on chapter 30 so far and loving it! smile

Oh, also, loving this season so far (as well as all the others) just not as much as S1 biggrin

Yeah, S1 was something special, it was also the most faithful...a coincidence?
I think that back then, they didn't think it would make it so far and so didn't plan it as well as could have been.
Then again, this thing consumes most of the producers lives for the year, and they wanna do other things.

Well the books seem to meander pointlessly on and on and on.

looks like the series will do the same but in a different direction.

GRRM king of pointless gratuitous suffering.

Unrelated- see how Barristan Selmy describes Rhaegar as the finest man he ever met, if he was so fine then why did he kidnap Ned's sister?

Or is there more to that than we've been shown in the show?

It's hard to discuss though without potential spoilers.

Google R+L=J but it's just a theory. A very popular theory!

It's speculated that he didn't actually kidnap her at all... The same speculations also link to Jon Snow's real mother!

I can't believe (yet) that Cersei has come undone. After being able to play the game for the seasons gone, to suddenly be making huge mistakes that could be her undoing, I just can't see it. She has to have an ace up her sleeve, if not then it will be a rather dull demise of her power..
Seemed to me she's backed into a corner. No allies left, all of a sudden, and is making a last, desperate roll of the dice. I think she's been playing a blinder over the last few weeks, though I expect it'll all backfire in the end.

Wasn't there some exposition in series 1 that explained she didn't want to go with Ned or Robert after one or both of them rushed in to save her? Suggests Barristan Selmy's character assessment of Rhaegar might have been on the money?

Or did I dream that?

You have to remember that this is what people believe happened not necessarily what actually happened.

Even the books don't confirm exactly what happened, though there is a key flashback scene missed off the show.

This series does seem to have alitle humour in it.

Bronn's line when the Sand Snakes appeared "fkin 'ell"

That combined with the Grammar Nazi-ism from last week, both made me smile.

I have to be honest a list of fave characters would have to include foul-mouthed Bronn and potty-mouth Tyrion

I have read about the theory on another forum, I just wasn't sure how much may have been based on what's in the books that isn't in the series.
