"filler episode", the most overused incorrectly applied phrase this side of 'plothole' here.

I wondered if they'd choose Ser Loras as their champion. When Margaery spoke to him he 'just wanted it to end' or something along them lines. It certainly would up against the mountain!
It probably would in his current state. But don't forget while the mountain is impressive, fighters like the Viper literally dance around him and quite easily destroyed him. Loras' supposed to be up there with two handed Jamie so he might give the mountain more trouble than you think.

On the other hand, Loras is very very weak right now, he has nowhere the range of the Mountain (6ft sword?) while the Viper did (7ft spear).
The Mountain's a zombie now so possibly a lot more unkillable (no pain? bleeding?).

Never even originally considered that Loras could be the champ...what with all the nerds constantly chanting Cleganbowl like a fking prayer, why the fk is it a 'bowl' too?

But Loras v Gregor would be pretty sweet...if it even happens.

Nice to hear Bronn namedropped as well. biggrin

Brienne beat Loras in season 2, Though I just rewatched it on youtube and it was pretty close, he disarmed her and she flattened him.
Think he's more of a jouster, He beat the mountain already at that.

Could have Sandor Clegane as the champion verses the Mountain.

Jaime
Sandor (if alive)
Loras
Edmure
Benjen?

But but but... The Hound is dead! This could be the season for returns, we've already had Jon, Benjen and reopened Bran's storyline and zombie Mountain right at the end of last season. Plus the potential for the Hound and Lady Stoneheart.

I ended up spoilering myself on Benjen's reappearance, he was in the episode cast list as 'Ranger beyond The Wall.'

Bran? (thought still a boy at this stage really)
Jorah?
Theon?

Someone else yet to be broken?

I don't know how Loras is in the books, but I always had him down as very good but not truly great.

He outjousted the Mountain in part through trickery and, as said, Brienne bested him, who struggled against weak two-handed and chained Jaimie.

In the books, when Sandor saved him from the mountain, I'm sure Ned noticed that the Mountain poorly defended his face but that the Hound never went for the kill.

I feel sorry for anyone who comes to GoT in the future- the uncertainty over Tyrion living, will Arya kill the actress, who will fight the mountain, etc, combined with the freedom to go reading blogs with no fear of spoilers for background info is a joy. I don't think I've ever enjoyed television so much for so long.

Yes I believe Loras is up there as a jouster while his brother Willas is regarded as the superior swordsman.

Loras is meant to be a top jouster and decent swordsman in the books.
Brienne was 'fighting' Jaime and trying not to hurt him in anyway, a nigh on impossible task in swordfighting.
I reckon the Mountain could be beaten by any top tier fighter.

Wouldn't it be a nice little twist if the Faith found a injured and dying Hound out in the wilderness, patched him up and converting him to their order....? scratchchin

Another option is that The Hound was found by the Brotherhood without Banners; they do tend to dabble in magic, love a scrap and hate the Lannisters.... Not to mention that they were formed to kill The Mountain.

And we heard mention of the Brotherhood without Banners for the first time since Arya left them during Walder Frey's dining hall chat with his currently least favourite sons. Where he was told they have been raiding Frey supply lines.

From next week's trailer we've seen the Blackfish, I'm guessing the Brothers show up next week as well. I'm also gonna guess ep8 or 9 will be a total story episode for the Battle of Winterfell.

I don't think 'Clegane-bowl' would be a very good twist. As discussed previously neither are particularly skilled fighters, relying more on size and strength advantage. In the hand tourney in S1 the hound held his own but I think against zombie mountain it's not plausible.

Now before striking the killer blow zombie removed his helm and burst in to tears would be worth seeing....

Well that's the Cleganebowl theory...

I hope they twist it so it's something nobody could guess.
