That did make me snigger somewhat while the wife just rolled her eyes hehe

It is such a good production. The cast is top notch, acting excellent, set and costume design is superb, beautifully shot (amazing in HD) and does a brilliant job of getting enough of the story in each episode without messing up the flow.

The production values are superb. I was drinking in the port scene last night.

Just back from a weekend at Eastercon (a speculative fantasy [aka sci-fi/fantasy] fan-run convention) in sunny heathrow.

Won a GoT promo poster in a charity auction that we were able to get signed by GRRM and met some of the cast who turned up... John Bradley (Sam Tarley), Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark).

GRRM was, in the various panels, interviews and readings, absolutely riveting - he's been writing for such a long time and his stories go back to the 70s hanging out with other people who went on to become top authors (Roger Zelazny being one of my all time heroes or fiction). He also read two chapters from the next book...

What was really amazing was just how normal the authors at the event were from the big names to new authors waiting for their first books to come out they were all more than happy to sit at the bar and chat about pretty much anything that came around. Quite funny when you're chatting to someone about random stuff to realise after that they're a Hugo award winner. Quite different from what was referred to as the 'media' world.

I have been to one con before. The atmosphere with the authors is brilliant. It's just like a pub thing over several days.

I am very jealous, I only found out about Eastercon or what ever it was when it was sold out. He is also doing a talk tonight at the Bloomsbury Theatre but I cant go

I absolutely love this series (and a few others that are on Sky Atlantic and FX HD)

There used to be a time when, if you wanted to watch a good 'adult' themed sci-fi/fantasy/thriller type story, you had to go to the cimema. Now, the opposite is true - the cinema is now for the kiddies with it's watered down violence/sex/stories and never ending dodgy sequels/prequels, and TV is now where the real action is at.

How times have changed....

I don't think Charlie Stross left the bar all weekend apart from his panels. Beer was pretty pricey but still consumed in large amounts

We booked pretty much a year in advance (in the late 400s)after seeing a write-up fro a gaming blogger we follow and they had 1400 at the Con pre-booked to capacity. Apparently the first time it's been sold out before the event for a while. We'll be sigining up to the 2013 event up in Bradford (http://www.eightsquaredcon.org/) and, as it's uncontested so is guaranteed to host it the Worldcon in London in 2014 (http://www.londonin2014.org/).

Considering these things are run by fans and not professionals it's staggering how well done it was.

Stellar news!

The 1h30 interview from EasterCon with GRRM is up on Ustream, it's pretty good and really covers his writing life finishing with a lot about writing the series. no major spoilers until the last question of the Q&A part but if you're up to date on the books there's nothing you wouldn't want to know.

Excellent news smile There are several chapters that I am really looking forward to - they will cement GOT as some of the most shocking and powerful drama ever televised. And we still have 8 episodes of greatness to look forward to this year smile

I think they could have chosen a better looking actress for Asha/Yara. I was quite surprised at how much of that was kept in, especially Theon and the ship captains daughter - although that did give them a chance to explain a few things to us. Also, the bit with Theon and Asha on the horse although being true to the book wouldn't make any sense to someone who hasn't read the books as they didn't show enough of the other scenes/conversations for it to make sense. It just came across as a bit rushed to me. Loved the scenery though, the Iron Islands lived up to my imaginings and Balon was quite good smile

Its strange how they use sex scenes to give us exposition, it's quite a novel way to do it although it can be a bit 'distracting' at times wink

At least the horse looked happy with what he was doing with his left hand

I hope the sex doesn't get gratuitous.
I don't see why Ros was in it either, it didn't reveal anything.
