Mance Rayder cast, which I believe means the last of the big parts for S3 is confirmed

Ciaran Hinds - good actor but older than I expected
I'm disappointed in this. I really had David Thewliss down as Mance for some reason.http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/08/17/game-of-thrones-...

I'm half way through book 5 and more or less stuck. Chucked it down last night after several pages of Martin approaching Tolkein's up his own 'arris style. Sorry but...
Well I left it for a while, got the paperbacks and realised that what was partly brassing me off was the sheer weight of th hardback making bedtime reading a strain. So I've stuck it to the end, got back into it and....
W............ T............ F.............. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can now read those earlier spoilers.
There are sample chapters on GRRMs websites but they do contain spoilers.
Winds of Winter will be around 1500 pages and he has 200 done already. 3 years is a conservative estimate.
In the meantime Ive preordered

I finished the fifth book a while ago and I'm a bit stuck with what to read now, any suggestions?
depends what you like most about it.....as 'fantasy' books go they're so historically based its hard to think of anything particularly similar.for some ace fantasy try Steven Eriksons ' Malazan books of the fallen' series - utter genius but do take some reading to get into
Joe Abercrombies first series is also a bit different and entertaining.
If you've not read Legend by David Gemmel you should...only fantasy book to appear in the Times top 40...though I prefer Waylander.
To be quite honest you should start at book one and work through. You will find a stack of things that were either glossed over in seasons one and two, or that were there but perhaps you didn't fully get it.
I know that isn't the answer you wanted, but the problem is that the plot in some of the books is parallel in time to other books, if you see what I mean. So season two took bits out of books two and three.
So I'd suggest read book 1, watch season 1 again, and so on.

Friend of mine started reading with book 3 assuming that this would be ok as he had seen S1 and S2 on TV. He then got very confused as some of the characters in book 3 are interoduced in Book 2 but were not in Season 2 of the TV show.
Halbs man crush Ramsey Bolton being one for example.
I think you could possibly skip Book 1 if you wanted to and not miss out too much although it would be recommended to read them all. You can get books 1-4 as box sets relatively cheapley I have noticed.
