I read the books last year and thought they where very good other than the fact the story is unfinished and the next book's release date keeps getting put back.
Watched the show last night and overall seemed pretty good. Acted well and not OTT in the way some fantasy adaptions are. Special effects nothing special but I reckon they have spent more of the budget on quality actors and not CGI.
How long is the series ? Last nights episode only took up a very small part of the first book. If the story remains true to the books its going to be a long series

Wonder what's happened to Starks unfortunate son...

The picture and sound were simply stunning. The opening scene had my subwoofer rumbling very nicely and the surround was sublime.
I don't think I've seen and heard such good picture and sound this side of a Blu-ray disc.

Watching the guys fighting over who got to mount the girl at the wedding, it did make me wonder how long it will be before the yoofs here start doing that sort of thing at the local nightclub.

I'd never heard of the books, but just watched the first episode. It's definitely got potential (and boobs).

Caught up with this last night (busy Monday nights, thank you Sky+ HD!).
Really captured the books well but got TV stuff moves right along. They seemed to cover all of the salient plot points and all the main players are introduced. The bad people are bad, noble people are noble and Tyrion was really well-played.
And boobs.

Know nowt of the books and thought the first episode ticked over quite slow but on reflection it did a fine job of setting the scene and establishing some of the characters. I'll be watching hooked no doubt. The lack of adverts probably made a difference - It seems I've become conditioned to everthing outside the BBC being broken up every 10 minutes or so. I guess normal Sky service will be resumed next week in that aspect.

After watching the first episode I only have two small issues with the casting compared to my interpretation of the book. Daenerys is stunning. Didnt have her pegged as being that hot. Arya is too pretty for the character she plays. Was expecting a really rough edged tom boy not a sweet butter would melt looking child who misbehaves.
