Game of Thrones - No spoilers
Discussion
Comes as no surprise. He updates his blog every few days and seems to be occupied with other things 80% of the time.
Must be great having people anticipate your work but I guess it could be stressful too if you want to put out a good product and not get slated over it.
What he could do is though, if he doesn't actually have the time, to pass the project on to someone else giving them the vision of his story and timelines. That way he can enjoy his fame still and money that he has earned and spend his coming years not slaving over books that he may not be enthusiastic about doing but other projects and hobbies he has.

Reminds me of that South Park episode.
"Have you ordered the pizza?!"
"Yes, yes! The pizza is coming!"
Game of Thrones is the most disappointing TV show I've ever watched in my life, I genuinely don't see what people like about it.
Whilst I enjoy it, I'm in no way as enchanted by it as many of my friends are. It's just swapped the plot armour the good guys would normally have and given it to the bad guys!"Have you ordered the pizza?!"

The makers of A Game of Thrones have a heavy responsibility as IMO the show will be the only way we will ever see the end of the story aside from another writer being brought in to write it from GRRM's notes. I am quite sure we will eventually get Winds of Winter, perhaps in a year or so. At which point it will become clear that to give a satisfactory conclusion to both the main plot AND all the various elements introduced in AFFC/ADWD that AT LEAST two more books will be needed after that.

Might be on the money there! I think all the mental fans then might start liking the fact that D&D have trimmed the story to get it out! Aside from the equally high death toll among both the evil and more morally dubious characters and the fact that only one POV character in the first book has definitely died so far (Snow's fate still being unknown).A Song of Ice and fire misleads you as to who the main heroes will be, it doesn't change the plot armour of those heroes.

YepPersonally I think that whilst they have heavily trimmed the middle act they did so to get to the final act and be able to deliver something close to GRRM's vision.
Season 5 was disappointing in many respects but "Hardhome" gives me hope that they can deliver a good end game.
Book purists may never recognise however that to have faithfully followed GRRM into his diversions would have meant the end of all hope of ever seeing a resolution.
