Bad Films I watched this weekend
Discussion
Am halfway through watching, nay, enduring The Counsellor (Ridly Scott) right now.
So far, I'd rate it as slow moving verging on tedious, pretentious, with the only saving grace being the cinematography.
Not sure if I can watch it 'till the end, though - the only emotional response I have had thus far is boredom and not caring for any of the characters...

Ah, someone else that sat through this seriously they must realise how bad it was even during filming, though I'm starting to think its that bad it might end up being looked back on in the same way as Plan 9 From Outer Space.

I don't understand how they managed to make such a boring film from what could have been great.
Too much philosophy from everybody long speeches that were supposed to be meaningful. People just don't talk like that ok maybe one character per film, not everybody.
It's like they said hmmm people like ncfom let's do that x10
The story of a councillor dragged in and going down instead of fighting back was different to normal but I don't care about him and it just went from great to oh fk with no in between.
. I liked the side story almost, as we followed the truck. Brad pitts character was just not needed and there to give his 10 minute amateur philosophy on crime and implications. Just poor, I should have liked it. It's my type if film. Also did I miss how Diaz knew he was in England and did she really need to hire that fit girl from got. And oh look here is that device talked about earlier oh and here is a snuff film disk. Jesus h Christ
Oh and that guy only plays one character and he always does that fking same sigh in every film like he did when James Bond knifed him In the back. Cos that's what you do when you get knifed through the lungs a big exasperated sigh , then tut loudly and shake your head as if somebody just stole your taxi in the rain.
He did it at least 5 times in this.
Oh and pps wtf no really WTF was the confession scene about, did I miss something? Was that priest in on the deal or was it just some pointless scene to telegraph how sinister Cameron Diaz was?
Just utter ste.
3/10

Pacific Rim. Predictable, dreadful, ridiculous and stereotypically stupid.
There's been an entire thread on this film. It's true to its source material and it delivers exactly what it promises to with no pretensions about being anything other than that. I'd call that a success. It's not like it took a great big dump on its source material like so many similar films do.
What exactly did you expect from a film about giant mecha that fight giant monsters?
Pacific rim - why did they build giant robots and a giant wall thousands of miles away when they knew where the alien monsters were going to appear, it's like Nelson's fleet being stationed in Alaska in case Boney comes via the North pole. They know where they come through so put a plug in it. Predictable, in the first few minutes telling us about it being lethal for one to pilot a robot so needing two to safely pilot a robot and then we meet the spunky brothers and you know what's coming next. The EMP takes out the robots, Hong Kong and the base but the street lights and advertising signs stay on in HK. Stereotypical British prof played embarrassingly geeky by Burn Gorman from Torchwood, whilst Rick Moran is is re-born as a nerdy American in Honey I Screwed up the Story.
I thought being Guillermo Del Toro film it might have some depth to it, my nephew who normally likes this kind of thing also thought it was bad.
It's a very expensive SyFy channel movie.

congo is fking awesome. stop eating my sesame cake.
I used to watch it quite often and thoroughly enjoyed it, nobody else did! Tim Curry's accent is amazing in it. Another around that time was '13th Warrior', Banderas learning a language just by listening to them talking, brilliant.Edited by Ilovetwiglets on Friday 19th September 12:05
