Bad Films I watched this weekend

The Counsellor, there used to be a time when a film with Ridley Scott's name on it, meant you could expect something pretty decent, he really has lost the plot with this and Prometheus. 2+ hour long film and yet the was no real development of plot or character, even Cameron Diaz doing the splits and humping a Ferrari California didn't make up for the rest of it.
Totally agree. Self indulgent, vain and unpleasant. It lacked any tension, charm or attachment to any of the characters. I truly didn't care what happened to anyone. Worst film I have seen for quite a long time.Ridley Scott should be embarrassed.

I don't know if it's still on iPlayer, but Ridley Scott was interviewed on Film 2014 a couple of weeks ago 9Mrs wanted to see The Hobbit review), and from what I heard, he was so far up his own arse it was truly cringe worthy! he was talking about how great he thought all his films were, including Prometheus! Couldn't believe what I was hearing...Ridley Scott should be embarrassed.
Now You See Me.
I mean, What? Seriously. What?
So many plot holes it was ridiculous. What bearing did "The Eye" stuff have on the rest of the movie. Why were they taking part in the whole enterprise? How did they do the moving the money to the audiences account trick? How did the head of the magicians get the funds and time to track them down and build the blueprint device? What were the chances that all three companies were still in business by the time he came to seek his revenge? It was a good job he got the job that he did because otherwise he wouldn't have been able to set the whole thing up from when he was a child but what were the chances that he managed to pass all the exams and get to the position he needed to be to seek his revenge?
And who the hell cast Isla Fisher? An ironing board in a Chanel suit with a smile painted on it could have phoned in a better performance.
Certainly the worst film I've seen this year and into my top three worst of all time. Utter, utter garbage.

No redeeming features, no tension, no action (apart from scene one), silly plot (cannot vouch for its biblical accuracy), clunky script, wooden actors (Bale tries his best I supose)
2/10 but only because I didn't pay specifically for it (Cineworld unlimited)

It got so annoying that Every character had a speech like some kind of underworld philosifer. Trying so hard to be godfather. Pitts ending was obvious as soon as he did his little soliloquy. Diaz character and motivation just didn't make any sense. Just crap.
The only good bit about the film was the story of the truck. But that had what ten minutes?
The bit where he was dancing and the bad guy just bellows "what are you doing?" was one of the low points. Like, what a st baddie! Don't get tied up in what he's doing, fking kill him you dhead.
But yes each to their own, I was hoping for it to be great but was disappointed.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
A film based on a wonderful book and a classic TV series. It features a strong cast (Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, Mark Strong) and is directed by Tomas Alfredson who made Let the Right One In. Pretty much a winner then? No!
127 minutes of utter fking dirge. There's no dialogue for the fist 20 minutes FFS! Add in the constant flashbacks and plot changes and you really do start to lose the will to live, particularly as it always gives the impression that something big/exciting is about to happen.

I think TTSS is very good, but you have to be in the right frame of mind for the slow pace. I found it atmospheric and absorbing, and the pace reflects the constant danger and cautious progress in that line of work; but on the wrong day I might find it dull as dishwater.
Agreed - on the first watch I thought it a tad ponderous. Watched it again a few weeks back when I had a clear afternoon with nothing better to do and I thought it was brilliant. The Hypno-Toad said:

Agreed. It is trult terrible. Definitely on my top ten worst films ever. I just wanted Jesse Eisenberg to die in every scene. I mean, What? Seriously. What?

I watched the first half an hour or so before I fell asleep but I must admit I wasn't overly impressed. Admittedly I'm not a fan of comic book films but I wasn't sure whether it was trying to be tongue in cheek LOL or proper sci fi with some of the jokes and the script generally. Anyway, when I get the chance I'll watch it again and try not to fall asleep to make a proper assessment. Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
